General Electric Regional Customs Leader - Customs Operations in Charlottesville, Virginia

Job Description Summary

As the Regional Customs Leader, you will be responsible for leading all customs-related activities for your region (not only the US/CAN but also across the LATAM countries). Process development, process improvement and problem solving are key components of the function.

Job Description

Main Duties

  • Develop and implement a strategy for regional customs operations in all the countries in the Americas where GE is doing business

  • Identify customs risks areas and develop actionable plans and procedures to mitigate those risks

  • Lead regional customs councils

  • Manage TSA pre-close and post-close tasks

  • Ensure performance of pre-declaration reviews (valuation, classification, country of origin, any applicable special program documentation is complete before an import or export occurs)

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate internal controls and drive implementation of recommended improvement plans

  • Prepare reports and metrics on duty, quality, savings, R&O, accomplishments and value creation

  • Respond to internal and external requests and investigations

  • Map out the cross-functional customs processes for each country where the business is currently importing

Authority

  • Work with approved agents to support daily customs clearances; own shipment issue resolution

  • Ensure support of regional customs activities by qualified personnel

  • Participate in QBRs with agents to address their areas of concern

  • Manage local customs agency relationship (gov’t)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college with minimum 5 years’ experience in customs processes or

  • High school diploma/GED with at least 7 years of experience in customs processes

Experience

  • Experience in multiple aspects of US Customs required, minimum 5 years experience

  • Experience in multiple aspects of a LATAM country where GE is active (Mexico, Brazil, Colombia), preferred

  • Demonstrated team player with strong influencing, interpersonal and motivating skills

Language skills

  • Fluent in English

  • Competency in Spanish ( strongly preferred )

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
