Job Description Summary
The Lead Controls Engineer is responsible for the design and development of control systems and equipment installed at various customer sites of our installed base within the power generation industry. Technology supported includes, but is not limited to, Turbine Control Systems, Distributed Control System, Human Machine Interface (HMI) solutions, and instrumentation.
The Lead Controls Engineer also supports defining the technical solutions for selling new opportunities while working with the Sales and Tendering teams.
This role requires knowledge of various related engineering disciplines and their applications.
The Lead Controls Engineer will be responsible for the smooth running of those new project designs equipment and control systems in partnership with the Project Management team in full conformity with quality procedures, deadlines, and existing EHS rules.
Design activities / new projects from global regions may be included to the scope of work but the Lead Controls Engineer will primarily focus on projects from the North and South Americas region. The mission, depending on the specificity of the scope, can last from a few days to several months. Between conversion, modernization and upgrade projects, the Lead Controls Engineer could be assigned to global tasks to support the New Product Development, engineering and/or support of various deliverables.
Roles and Responsibilities
As the Lead Controls Engineer - you will:
Design, test and support commissioning of hardware and software for Steam Turbine control solutions
Engage in detailed review of customer specifications, comparing to GE and former Alstom products and providing list of technical deviations to the specifications
Generate and provide drawings and detailed bill of materials
Provide estimate of engineering hours required for project execution
Lead customer acceptance testing
Liaise with overseas engineering and tendering personnel to ensure product compliance with US and Canadian standards and requirements
Occasionally, attend technical conferences, training seminars, etc.
Review RFQs (Request for Quote) and technical specifications while providing clarifications for proposals
Promote GE and/or Alstom products in front of customers during presentations and other events, as needed
Continually improve personal technical, commercial, and organizational knowledge and skills while mentoring lesser experienced engineers
Research technical offerings of major competitors to help bridge product gaps
Perform routine administration duties and paperwork in a timely and accurate manner with particular attention to deadlines for engineering design, proposal development, presentations and reports
Maintain excellent relations with customers, peers, management and overseas office
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering / Controls & Automation or (or other similar technical area) from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of 5 years design and/or commissioning experience in turbine control system or DCS for power plants or comparable machine controls experience in another industry.
Experience with Steam Power and/or Nuclear power plant requirements.
Experience with turbine control system, DCS and instrumentation, in any kind of power plant (coal fired or industrial steam turbines, nuclear power plants, gas turbines in simple or combined cycle, hydro power plants…)
Practical knowledge of Alspa ControSteam control system (used in Darlington), other Legacy Alstom products as a plus (Alspa P320, P400, Blueline, Microrec, STG820…)
Practical knowledge of GE products as a plus (Mark V, Mark VI, Mark VIe…)
Ability to adapt to changing technology.

Colorado: The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $105,000. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
