GE Aviation Wales specialises in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of a range of commercial jet engines. The facility, based in Nantgarw, just North of Cardiff, occupies over 1.2 million square foot of workshop space and has two state-of-the-art aircraft engine testing facilities, along with a significant repair capability – known as Component Repair Wales.
The site has the capability to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services for a range of engine types – including the world’s most powerful commercial aircraft engine the GE90 115B and the world’s most popular commercial engine the CFM56.
As one of the largest commercial aircraft engine maintenance facilities in the world, with annual sales of over $2.9bn, the business works with over 90 customers worldwide, including Emirates, TUI, Lufthansa, Delta, United, ANA and British Airways.
In 2017, GE Aviation Wales was selected as the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility of choice for the GE9X; which will become the world’s largest and most fuel-efficient jet engine when it launches into service. The business will benefit from a £5m investment from the Welsh Government to support the total £20m investment put forward by the business, to equip and upskill the facility to be ready to maintain the GE9X fleet when it enters service on the new Boeing 777X aircraft.

Roles and Responsibilities
GE Aviation is becoming a digital industrial business with its ability to harness large streams of data that are providing incredible insights and in turn, real operational value for customers. We are seeking highly motivated individual to contribute to our digital future.
At GE you will work within the Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning Team to develop and apply algorithms to transform raw data into actionable insights. As the Data Analyst Intern you will possess analytical skills, a structured approach to problem solving, and statistical knowledge.
Our job is to work alongside GE Aviation Wales to develop, test and deploy analytics or software which provide significant insights and improvements to the business. We also develop custom in-house tools to help us deliver our projects efficiently and effectively. We support a wide range of internal customers and every project is different and gives the opportunity to learn something new.
Assisting in the collection, validation, and analysis of data to support business objectives. Primary focus will be labour hours, cost and TAT, but there is a requirement to support the business with all ad-hoc data requests
Use analytical methods to monitor trends and identify problems as they emerge
Assist in the development, test and deployment of analytical dashboards/tools/reports including the maintenance of existing capabilities
Providing support to the site data analyst, inventory analyst as well as supporting production planners with daily tasks, maintenance of plans and upkeep of SAP
Work with operations teams to understand the reality behind the data and provide commentary to support reporting packs.
Assisting in the preparation of clear and insightful presentations.

Qualifications / Requirements
Analytical scripting skills – Python and SQL preferred
Experience of Machine Learning and advanced analytic techniques
All placements are available to penultimate/final year students and will start between June to August 2022, for a duration of 12 months.
