Job Description Summary
Activities contributing to the design and development of products, solutions and systems. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.
Roles and Responsibilities
Defining the physical configuration optimized to convert mechanical inputs that develops an electrical system energized to produce electricity.Addressing the configuration of electrical apparatus and systems, especially of main generators, of power electronics devices, switchgear, transformers, bus bars, cables, non-conducting materials and comprehensive system integration concepts.
Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members
For roles outside of the USA- This role requires advanced experience in the Engineering/Technology & Electrical Component. Knowledge level is comparable to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
For roles in USA - Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in Job Family Group(s)/Function(s)).
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Protection & Control (P&C) system design, products configuration and application software development
Execute (hands on) factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) for electrical substations protection and control (P&C) devices.
Design product application solutions, third part product and systems integrations and perform troubleshooting analysis for electrical substations P&C systems
Specialist support on GE products for customers and partners
Investigate, debug and propose solutions for products, application and configuration issues
Support tendering teams in proposal preparation
Support project management teams during projects assignments
Prepare and give training sessions to customers
Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in electrical or automation & control engineering, computer sciences or certificate program in electrical, electronic or computer sciences courses (technical course)
Advanced English and basic French proficiency for projects located in countries whose official language is French; other languages are an advantage.
Available for traveling worldwide in project assignments at least 60% of total time.
Basic technical knowledge on protection relays from UR, Micom, 650 or 8 Series GE products or other manufacturers protection and control devices.
Proficiency on understanding substation automation design schematics documents like electrical functional diagrams, mechanical and logical drawings
Proven conceptual/academic knowledge on automation communication networks and the following communication protocols: IEC61850, DNP v3.0, IEC-101, IEC-104, Modbus
Proven conceptual/academic knowledge on industrial automation systems
Basic understanding of electrical substations topologies (one and half circuit breaker, single and double busbar, ring, etc.)
Demonstrated programming and software design skills
Knowledge on relay test equipment (Ex: ISA, Omicron or Doble test boxes)
Teamworking, positive mindset and resilience
Analytics and problem-solving skills
Willingness to learn and share knowledge.
Hands on experience on UR, Micom, 8 Series and 650 GE products
Previous experience on participating to energy automation systems (P&C) FATs or SATs
Understanding of electrical substations process and equipment (Circuit Breakers, Power Transformers, Disconnectors, etc.)
Understanding of Electrical Substations instrumentation equipment (VTs, CTs, AVRs, etc.)
Understanding of local regulation standards for substation automation, P&C systems.
Advanced knowledge on Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Access, Power Point, Visio, Word and Outlook)
Good communication skills. Must be clear and concise when reporting activities or interacting with project management team members and customers.
