Each project at OC Robotics is governed first and foremost by mechanical engineering requirements. This means the mechanical engineer’s role is key to defining the approach to each project as well as designing the solution, supported by a highly competent team of electronics, firmware and software engineers.
You will be an experienced mechanical design engineer with strong intuitive and analytical skills.
Design, develop, build snake-arm robots, industrial robots, tools, test rigs, sensors and other hardware (collectively hardware)
Ensure the hardware developed is suitable for the customer’s requirements (internal and external customers)
Take ownership for the delivery of hardware and systems
Maintain the quality in all work produced by actively reviewing, testing, identifying and fixing issues.
Take a proactive approach to identifying ‘what-ifs’, identify which issues are key and provide solutions
Participate in peer to peer reviews and other reviews with team leader and/or director(s) of design work (whether your own or others)
Provide Quality Assessment support, including: inspection and use of internal and external test facilities, for goods in that are for assembly into test rigs or products (robots)
Effectively communicate Work Order progress with project lead and work order lead as necessary
Continually and effectively communicate to all members of the mechanical team to help maintain team cohesion
Support internal and external customers to understand how to use and operate products designed
Help with informal training and guidance of more junior staff
Take initiative to help the Head Mechanical Engineer meet the objectives of the department
And other duties as may reasonably be required, consistent with the post and company needs Qualifications/Requirements:
Good degree in a rigorous mechanical engineering subject or CEng IMechE or equivalent knowledge and experience
Good experience of mechanical design
Experience of design for manufacture
Strong mathematical ability
Excellent problem solving skills
