General Electric Sr. Electrical Power System Software Engineer in Bothell, Washington

Job Description Summary

Work with customers to determine functionality of needed features, and work with GE Engineers to design, implement, test, document, and deliver these features.

Job Description

  • Responsible for advanced Power Systems Application software development, testing, integration and tuning of assigned functions to meet corporate project/product commitments including include developing Power System features for Electric Utilities or Independent System Operators (ISOs) and Transmission System Operators (TSOs).

  • Contribute to the development of power systems applications in the context of customer commercial projects and ensure related application deliveries are on schedule, within budget and meet or exceed customer satisfaction expectations.

  • Write documents for new project tasks, such as design notes, test procedures, etc.

  • Provide maintenance of power systems application functionality, including code fixes, documentation, and user interfaces.

  • Responsible for programming a feature and/or a small feature set.

  • Promote and demonstrate best practices and high-quality software development processes. Implement new functionalities in power systems application software.

  • Mentor junior team members and interns.

  • Responsible for design, development, documentation, and acceptance testing of applications and features.

  • Responsible for on time, on budget, and quality of work done by self and other team members.

  • Manage stressful situations involving customers, project management, deadlines, and safety-critical software.

  • Collaborate with system/project engineers, front-end developers, EMS (Energy Management Systems), DTS (Dispatcher Training Simulator), and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) application developers to implement solutions that are aligned with product direction.

  • Represent the company at customer meetings.

  • Provide effort estimates to Project Manager/Project Engineer for new project tasks. Provide input to technical lead on schedules and cost estimates.

  • Consult with other technical leads to ensure that project-related system design guidelines are being followed.

  • Direct customer interactions.

  • Implement engineering solutions for unique customer requirements as well as assist customers with troubleshooting problems related to the operation of real-time systems.

  • Provide regular reports to the Power Systems Application Team Lead and Group Manager on the status of their assigned tasks.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Electrical Engineering

  • Three years of experience in Power System Software Engineering.

Special Skills Required

  • Familiarity with Electric Utilities Energy Accounting functionality.

  • Some work or academic experiencewith development or project delivery in power systems or Energy Management Systems (EMS).

  • Some work or academic experience withsoftware development.

  • Some work or academic experiencewith C++ or Java.

The [salary/hourly pay] range for this position is [110,400-165,600]. The specific [salary/hourly rate] offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for [a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity].
