General Electric Senior Certification Systems Engineer – Programs in Boston, Massachusetts

Role Summary:

  • In this role, you will be a certification engineer working with customers, certification authorities, and product engineers to develop the certification safety cases needed for advanced UAS operations including BVLOS and OoP.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with authorities to understand the ConOps and safety considerations for unmanned operations

  • Determine the certification strategy and certification basis of operations and products

  • Assist in the development certification processes and procedures necessary for unmanned traffic management

  • Plan compliance activities and determination of means of compliance

  • Interpret regulatory material and determine project impact

  • Provide certification direction to development and verification teams

  • Generate certification documentation

  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments

  • Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives

  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

  • Participate in relevant industry standards committees, working groups, and conferences


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Aviation or Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline from an accredited college or university

  • Understanding of manned or unmanned certification standards

Desired Characteristics:

  • Current or past FAA DER delegation

  • FAA section 333/ 44807 or Part 107 UA operations

  • Understanding of the aircraft systems engineering and civil certification lifecycles

  • Familiarity with major aircraft subsystems, particularly avionics and associated regulations

  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems

  • Familiarity with ARP 4754, DO-326, DO-278A, and DO-178C (and supplements)

  • Solid oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Demonstrated success in a cross-functional team environment

  • Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related field

  • Demonstrated experience in Lean/Six Sigma tools

  • Participation / experience on related industry committee activities
