Job Description Summary

The Lean Leader is responsible for transforming GE’s results through the application of lean principles. Specifically, the LEAN leader will work closely as a partner with the businesses and functions to implement Lean practices, through the facilitation of kaizen weeks. The primary responsibility of this position is to develop lean proficiency among GE leaders and team members to establish self-sufficiency to sustain the lean transformation.

Job Description

The Lean Leader will serve as a facilitator, educator, advocate, consultant and accountability partner to drive the understanding and application of Lean principles and tools in kaizen weeks. While many have been trained in Lean and Six Sigma tools, GE is in the early stages of the adoption of lean as an operating enabler. The Lean Leader will:

  • Establish a kaizen event rhythm with a business and leverage that activity to develop lean proficiency for all employees; creating internal capabilities to facilitate kaizens and sustain continuous process improvement without external support.

  • Partner with the Business and Kaizen Promotion Office Lean leaders to quickly develop and deploy new, best-practice capability and process across GE using the core lean tools. Key contributor to the development and implementation of the GE lean system.


  • Ten-plus years of experience as a leader in mature lean companies.

  • Demonstrated ability in solving complex problems and transforming results and process through the application of Lean techniques.

  • Lean practitioner, capable of facilitating kaizen events and coaching the core tools such as Daily Visual Management, structured Problem Solving, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Transactional Process Improvement and Kanban.

  • Specific experience in reducing inventory through lean transformation.

  • Change agent, able to make the case for lean and demonstrate immediate impact.

  • Highly collaborative person, comfortable with conflict and debate normally associated with change in a kaizen.

  • Critical thinker with the ability to bring others along, even those with conflicting priorities.

  • Impactful communicator from the shop floor to the commercial team..

  • A global team member serving as part of a remotely-based team; the right candidate can live anywhere. GE’s hubs are in London, Paris, Atlanta, Boston, Schenectady, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Switzerland, Shanghai, Singapore, etc.


Anywhere - Candidates must be willing to travel 50% of the time in full weeks typically associated with a kaizen week.
