General Electric Intern - Corporate Culture Communications Team in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description Summary

The GE Corporate Culture Communications team is looking for an intern to contribute to our employee and executive communications strategy and initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team member with a creative mindset, an eagerness to learn, excellent writing skills and an unyielding commitment to integrity and safety. This role reports directly to the Director of Employee Communications and will partner with other team members during the internship.

Job Description

The intern position is a part of the GE Corporate Culture Communications Team. The Team leads, develops, and executes a wide variety of strategic communication initiatives aimed at informing, engaging, and motivating employees to advance GE’s business strategy. This position will work with stakeholders within GE Corporate and across our businesses to shape, connect, and articulate the core elements of GE’s culture transformation. The intern will gain robust experience in a corporate communications environment, further develop their writing and editing skills, and work with and learn from leading communication professionals.

Essential Responsibilities

  • The duration of the internship will be up to 40 hours a week for 3 months.

  • During the internship, the candidate will:

  • Collaborate with a variety of internal stakeholders to plan and execute communications tactics for multiple audiences.

  • Gain experience in developing content that is impactful and tied to our strategy.

  • Support culture initiatives and content highlighting diversity, safety, lean, HR processes, and recruiting.

  • Post and keep current intranet stories and assist in social media content.

  • Support Leadership Meetings and other event planning, content creation, and delivery.

  • Summer 2021 (May/June 2021 - August 2021)

  • Remote/Boston, MA/New York, NY

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Current collegiate student in their junior or senior year who is pursuing a degree in journalism or communications, or a comparable program.

  • Excellent oral and written skills in English, any additional language is a plus.

  • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (without rounding).

  • Must be willing to take a drug test as part of the selection process.

  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.

Desired Characteristics

  • Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel; familiarity with the Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and/or video editing software is a plus.

  • Demonstrates strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.

  • Positive, flexible, team-oriented attitude.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Organized and detail-oriented self-starter.

  • Displays executive presence with an understanding of the importance of relationship building and networking.
