General Electric Lead Engineering Assembler 4 in Bohemia, New York

Job Description Summary

Performs a series of complex steps in the assembly, disassembly, and re-assembly of electronic products, for both electrical and mechanical assemblies. These steps are performed in accordance with applicable military specifications in an attempt to identify and correct the cause of failure or malfunctions. Supports the shop operations and provide assistance to the Engineering Manager.

Job Description

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Performs disassembly and re-assembly steps with minimal instruction to a variety of top assembly chassis, as well as, the sub-assemblies and components that make them up

  • Follows operation sheets, engineering drawings and engineering change orders in completion of the re-assembly tasks

  • Exercises care to ensure that each step in the process is completed correctly and that each re-assembly meets the quality specifications

  • Notifies the appropriate personnel of any problems associated with the disassembly or re-assembly process

  • Maintains records as required to charge direct labor time to specific product amounts

  • Performs duties using a variety of hand tools and related engineering &/or production equipment

  • Provides training and mentoring for other employees as required

  • Performs other routine operations within fairly similar situations as required

  • Provide written and/or oral communications concerning a variety of situations

  • Keeps workstation, tools and equipment in a neat and orderly manner

  • Understands and complies with all Company, safety rules and regulations

  • Engages and participates in a self – directed teaming environment

  • Assists the Engineering Manager on identifying work assignments for other assemblers when necessary;

  • Proactively prioritizes jobs based on customer needs

  • Communicates detailed work status to Management and teams

  • Helps train, mentors, and supports the team of Assemblers to ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery

  • Provides status to Materials team of shop floor supplies, chemicals, and hardware to avoid shortages

  • Supports Lean initiatives and provides continuous improvement feedback related to manufacturing operations, specifically documentation such as drawings, BOMS, Ops sheets, including tooling and fixtures

  • Generates work orders for Engineering tasks

Requirements/Knowledge:

Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • IPC-A-610 Certification

  • J-STD-001 Certification

  • IPC-7711 Certification

Experience

  • 5-7minimum of engineering manufacturing experience

Skill Level Required:

  • Skills required in maintaining close tolerances, complex disassembly and re-assembly using tools & gages, advanced operation sheets and drawings.

  • Basic computer skills

  • Good level of knowledge of manufacturing processes

  • Should possess dexterity skills, good hand & eye coordination

  • Effective communication skills (written and oral)

  • Efficient problem-solving skills

  • High sense of urgency and understands priorities with minimal guidance

  • Exceptional aptitude in process prototyping

  • Desired Qualifications:

  • Past experience in a manufacturing environment; Past experience in a self-directed teaming environment; Lean manufacturing knowledge: IPC-7721 Certification
