Job Description

As a System Dynamics/Stability senior engineer, you will lead efforts to develop state-of-the-art tools to evaluate global system dynamics and stability of the wind turbine. You will support resolution of vibration related issues both in simulation and field. You will develop technical strategies to improve the robustness and reliability of the wind turbine design against instability risks.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Research, develop, verify/validate, document, and deploy state-of-the-art software tools, methods, criteria, and best practices that will improve assessment of wind turbine dynamics and stability

  • Provide system dynamics support for root cause analysis

  • Provide system dynamics support to improve wind turbine modeling

  • Support the development of improved control that better accounts for the true wind turbine system dynamics


  • MS and PhD in Mechanical, Wind, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering from accredited university (or equivalent)

  • Expertise and demonstrated experience with wind turbine system dynamics and stability.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop engineering software, perform scientific computing, adopt coding, collaborate best practices, and learn new languages. Must be proficient in Matlab & python.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Expertise and demonstrated experience developing and/or using multibody simulation software used in wind turbine design (e.g., Simpack, Flex5, Bladed, ADAMS, HAWC2)

  • PhD + significant experience in Mechanical, Wind, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering from accredited university (or equivalent)

  • Knowledge of aeroelasticity, numerical or analytical mechanics, linear and nonlinear system theory, aerodynamics, fluid-structure interaction, structural dynamics, rotor dynamics

  • Demonstrated and strong ability to clearly communicate complex/technical information and to work effectively in global cross-functional teams

  • Ability and willingness to travel 8 weeks per year
