Job Description Summary
GE Aerospace Electrical Power business (Power Generation, Conversion, Distribution and Control) is leading the way in the application of advanced technologies towards the development and delivery of high-performance power products for aerospace and industrial hybrid vehicle applications.
The ‘Staff Engineer – Electrical Component’ is a high impact role and in this role, he or she will contribute to the development of advanced power products and be part of the design, development, troubleshooting, and validation of generators or motors for the Aviation power industry. This role includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Execute the design, development, and analysis of assigned individual and team projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirement
Develop, analyze, and recommend configurations for high power/high density power generators and motors from basic principle
Review or mentor the team on Electromagnetic design and analysis for power generators and motors for the Aviation power industry and deliver solutions.
Guide and deliver on computational electromagnetics and the governing equations.
Develop the functionality of in-house developed electromagnetic tools using FORTRAN, C, Python language
Develop solutions to meet the electrical machine requirements and enhance efficiency, torque, harmonics, etc.
Good understanding on dielectric physics in electrical machines and design accordingly
Develop methodology for the validation to test functionality of equipment
Has knowledge of best practices and how his / her domain is integrated with others
Decision making capability to solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering
Provides technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations
Present in program reviews or guide the team in the program reviews
Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited university or college in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Machines or Electromagnetics
8+ years of experience in an engineering position
Desired Characteristics
Master's Degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Machines or Electromagnetics from an accredited university or college or equivalent experience
Proficiency in ANSYS Maxwell /MagNet, RMxprt, MotorCAD, MATLAB and EM FE tools
Ability to understand Finite Element Analysis and other numerical methods
Ability to understand various types of electrical machines their applications and limitations
Ability to read and understand relevant standards
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Effective problem identification and solution skills
Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects
