As a Senior Usability Expert, you will lead usability activities for product development programs by defining their usability strategies and by planning and executing programs’ usability activities based on user-centered design principles and customer needs. You will also provide strategic guidance to the business on usability/human factors approach based on international standards

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

• Observe the patterns of use and the physical usage environment, analyze tasks, document and map work-flows, interview users, organize and conduct focus groups, gather user requirements during the pre-design phases of the project, plan and conduct site visits, analyze and document field research results, create environment and user profiles, report use study results to program members.

• Organize design-driver/concept creation workshops, create new concepts, brainstorm new user interface ideas and build mock-ups, evaluate design concepts and user interface prototypes with end-users, select the final concept to carry forward

• Provide input and review for usability evaluation plans, protocols, reports, task analysis, uFMEA, use analysis reports

• Oversee planning of usability evaluations and design tests, recruiting participants, conducting usability tests, analyzing results and recommend changes, re-write specifications related to changed features

• Supervise and co-ordinate the work of researchers in programs GE Healthcare participates, attend conferences for medical professionals, present at the conferences

• Design user interfaces, specify the interaction and navigation, write user requirement specifications

• Define usability goals and develop metrics for measuring how well the product meets the CTQs

• Create material that spreads usability awareness throughout the Maternal Infant Care Business

• Represent Usability Engineering on core teams for all programs

• Manage usability lab to ensure that it remains accurate use environment for usability studies.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree software engineering, information sciences, human factors engineering, cognitive psychology, graphical design, industrial design or related field

• 5+ years professional user interface design experience with familiarity in current usability research, theories and methodologies

• Keep pace with medical device national and international guidances that have a usability engineering impact and understand how to apply those guidances

• Expert in Interaction Design and User-Centered Design process with successful experience in software, web, or hardware development

• Demonstrated ability to develop user interface concepts & visual design alternatives, create prototypes, and deliver requirements

• Demonstrated project management leadership in multidisciplinary team environment, good communication, interviewing and presentation skills

• Ability to demonstrate new ideas to customers using sketches and mock-ups, ability to identify users’ hidden needs Basic understanding of system, electrical, and mechanical design, as well as software integration.

Desired Characteristics

• Master’s degree software engineering, information sciences, human factors engineering, cognitive psychology, graphical design, industrial design or related field

• Practical experience applying IEC 62366, 60601-1-6, MDR, and HE75 to medical device design and development

• Demonstrated flexibility and practicality in applying user-centered design principles and methodologies to software and hardware in a business environment

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Manage the outsourced resources involved in the usability evaluations
