General Electric Lead Engineer - Aerothermal Sciences in Bengaluru, India

Job Description Summary

As a Lead Engineer – Aerothermal Sciences, you will collaboratively execute technology programs in development and research of advanced aerothermal systems. Systems include aircraft engines, gas turbines, wind turbines and healthcare equipment catering to business needs of GE Aviation, GE Power, GE Renewables and GE Healthcare. You will interact with technologists and engineers to develop and deliver novel solutions for complex, multi-disciplinary problems.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Apply your knowledge in aerodynamics/acoustics/combustion/fluid mechanics/heat transfer to develop innovative aerothermal & acoustic solutions for GE products

  • Participate in a team framework on multi-generation technology programs to enable future design advancements, while independently executing tasks leveraging your technical skills.

  • Tasks include, but not limited to:

  • Advanced modeling and simulation, including high-fidelity analyses, with opportunities for in-house code development

  • Develop ideas and concepts to improve aero-thermodynamic performance and operability of aircraft engine, gas turbine, wind turbine and medical device components.

  • Develop and implement hardware for testing and validation, where applicable

  • Network and collaborate with both GE product engineers and with GE Global Research team members to build plans and execute on technical projects

  • Deliver on technical projects with set timelines and cost, implement plans with minimal guidance to meet technical requirements and assure proper documentation of the same

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 4 years or post-doctoral experience or a Master’s degree in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 8 years of research industry experience

  • Fundamental knowledge in any of the following areas: turbomachinery aerodynamics / acoustics / combustion, wind turbine aerodynamics/acoustics, turbomachinery/medical systems heat transfer

  • Experience in using commercial software (ANSYS, CFX, Fluent, ICEPACK)

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new, unfamiliar technology areas and to abstract system level concepts

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Desired Characteristics

  • For candidates with turbomachinery/wind turbine aerodynamics/aeroacoustics/combustion backgrounds:

  • Experience in unsteady CFD – URANS and LES modelling

  • Experience in detailed modeling of turbomachinery/wind turbine systems, components, and sub-components

  • Hands-on experience in designing compressors and/or turbines, at various levels of fidelityExperience in performing design trade-off studies and design optimization

  • For candidates with thermal/heat transfer backgrounds:

  • Understanding of wide concepts and designs of heat exchangers

  • Experience in using system level tools such as GTPower, Thermoflow, Aspen HYSYS.

  • Experience in advanced real-time research, design & development of heat exchangers modelling and simulations, including conjugate heat transfer
