General Electric Executive CIO - Software & Engineering in Bengaluru, India

Role Summary:The Executive of Engineering, Software Development and Engineering, will be accountable for providing strategic leadership and execution through support and delivery of engineering IT tools. The Software Development and Engineering responsibility will include delivery of software solutions for internally facing usage that help drive increased productivity/decreased cycle time and drive clear standards and processes for software development within Renewable Energy Digital Technology.

Essential Responsibilities:As the CIO Engineering, Software Development & Engineering, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership to deliver engineering IT tools and enterprise platforms that drive Digital Thread for product life cycle, product design via strategic CAD platforms and support simulation software growth and development through partnerships with Global Research center leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership to design and deploy software solutions that enable sustainable growth and deliver increased productivity/reduced cycle time, in support of all functions of the business including sales, manufacturing, sourcing, engineering, service and finance capabilities

  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with all Engineering business operational leaders to understand and align software tool requirements while identifying opportunities of continuous improvement and simplification across businesses or within an engineering function

  • Maintain strong partnership with the Power Digital Technology Engineering team for support in shared technology solutions and software maintenance & license management

  • Be an active participant of the Engineering CIO Council, sharing best practices, engineering innovation and aligning on vendor agreements across GE

  • Lead, inspire, and develop a team of 75 GE employees including 10 direct reports and 250 contingent resources highly experienced in design, development, global deployment & dev/ops activities driving strong focus on the delivery and support of engineering and software development

  • Lead design, development and deployment teams to manage all aspects of engineering and software engineering application development and delivery across multiple functions, business units and regions.

  • Effectively initiate, plan, schedule, control, and bring to closure multiple high priority projects

Lead a team that develops a first class engineering operation support model, supporting all Renewable Energy Tier 2 engineering businesses

  • Lead the PLM road map and implementation plan in alignment with business needs, driving simplification in platforms and processes across the sub-businesses

  • Drive simplification of engineering tools across business, implementing synergies when warranted across businesses

  • Build & maintain strategic relationships with functional partners and GE Digital Technology teams, strategic vendors to effectively collaborate and supports the domains

  • Deliver most business value, manage budgets & financial reviews, and outline multi-generational project strategy aligned to deliver on the business and GE priorities

  • Establish a culture of innovation, high-performance, collaboration, respect and integrity

  • Positively & collaboratively lead the team through change over sustained periods of time while providing strategic oversight, team optimization and talent development through feedback, training, and stretch assignments

  • Develop and drive the software development and engineering organization to foster innovation, agile design and test methodology, flexible teaming, knowledge sharing and talent transformation

  • Provide leadership, inspiration and guidance to a growing team; foster a culture of transparency, collaboration and innovation; hire and retain exceptional talent.


  • Bachelor's Degree in 'STEM' field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), Information Systems, Information Technology (IT), Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent knowledge / experience

  • Significant IT or Engineering experience leading complex, diverse projects

  • Significant IT professional experience along with established leadership credentials across product lines, cross-functional initiatives and large product portfolios

  • Demonstrated ability to build highly functioning technical teams

  • Demonstrated ability of working with executive-level stakeholders to define, lead, and implement process and tools strategy to drive process improvement changes

  • Significant experience in supporting complex and integrated business process capabilities

  • Proven leadership experience managing large global teams across multiple functional disciplines

Experience managing budgets including annual budgets and large-scale projects

  • Excellent influencing, interpersonal and communications skills (both written and verbal) with all levels of an organization

Ability to synthesize and communicate complex technology topics to all levels of the organization

  • Demonstrated customer focus – evaluates decisions through the eyes of the customer, builds strong customer relationships, creates processes with customer viewpoint and partners with customers to help shape their future initiatives

  • Strong analytical and strong problem-solving skills -communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively evaluates information / data to make decisions, anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve, creates actionable strategies and operational plans

  • Change oriented – actively generates process improvements, champions and drives change initiatives, confronts difficult circumstances in creative ways, balances multiple and competing priorities and executes accordingly

  • Uses critical thinking skills and disciplined approaches to help leaders and leadership teams resolve issues and define solutions

  • Influences and energizes others toward the common vision and goal.

  • Maintains excitement for a process and drives to new directions of meeting the goal in the face of unfavorable odds and setbacks

  • Ability to identify new approaches to complex design problems

  • Demonstrated experience to positively lead global and geographically dispersed teams through significant change

Desired Characteristics:

  • Demonstrated experience deploying and supporting PLM applications (Enovia, PTC, Siemens, ARAS) as well as integrating systems (CAD – NX, Catia, etc)

  • Demonstrated leadership and program management expertise in driving large scale PLM platforms

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of business processes including engineering, manufacturing, service and finance

  • Demonstrated ability to operationally oversee many PLM platforms and other engineering applications

Dynamic leader & strong team player – collaborates well with others to solve problems and actively incorporates input from various stakeholders

  • Strong track record of understanding and interest in current and emerging technologies demonstrated through training, job experience and / or industry activities

  • Evangelizes modern technologies to internal product teams, stakeholders and GE executives

  • Envisions technology landscape scalability best practices and translates them to requirements, architecture and tooling
