The engineering manager role would lead Materials & Process Engineering (MPE) team in gas power engineering organization at Bangalore. The role involves material analysis, testing and development of combined cycle power plant components covering gas turbine, steam turbine, HRSG and balance of plant portfolio in GE, Gas Power business. In this role, MPE leader will

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

The engineering manager demonstrates leadership in communicating materials program needs to his or her team with clear plan on resources and execution requirements. The person should take responsibility in driving culture of innovation and collaboration to successfully commercialize new materials or process to gain business benefits. In this role, He/She will utilize his/her experience or expertise to steer and solve problems, develop and execute targets for self and others, and have ability to effect short-term and long-term business goals of gas power.

  • Develop program proposals in materials domains by using excellent engineering standards and by adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

  • Steer materials programs including testing with highest rigor on safety, quality, delivery & cost.

  • Support materials qualification efforts towards variable cost productivity programs especially on supplier qualifications and product cost out programs.

  • Provide strong coordination between the materials, mechanical design, sourcing, supply chain and quality organizations during the project execution phase to meet product or program goals.

  • Develop strong background in cold spray coatings, oxidation, corrosion, surface degradation domain with material testing and analysis capabilities to address present and future programs.

  • Develop deep understanding towards mechanical design inputs like creep, LCF, HCF, oxidation, corrosion rates from materials sample testing and analysis.

  • Identify/work on technology break throughs in collaboration with research and external universities to improve the competitiveness of the technology stack.

  • Available to take lead on customer or field or supplier visits for key test procedures or qualification approvals or whichever is critical to the business.

  • Drive documentation of technical data generated by the team from test labs for assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

  • Develop continuous improvement road map for product, people, process and technology to drive product differentiation in the market.

  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments to broader global and domestic MPE teams.

  • Participate along with team to address organizational initiatives and generic issues.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Doctorate or Master’s in engineering with specialization in materials.

  • More than 10 years of experience in the field of materials processing, development, research and testing.

  • Hands on experience with turbomachinery or powerplant component materials technology development.
