General Electric Advanced Lead Engineer - Emerging Technology in Bengaluru, India

Job Description Summary

The engineer in this role will be responsible for delivering priorities of Aerodynamics Geometry and Fan & Compressor Airfoil Tools and Methods.

Aero Geometry tools and method is a critical domain for GE businesses (Aviation, Power and Renewable). Geometry tools are used for design of Airfoils, Nacelles and many other turbomachinery components of Gas turbines and jet engines. NIGEL (Nacelle inlet gas exhaust lines) is one such geometry tool used to design Nacelles. NIGEL is an integrated framework that has capabilities for geometry creation of different components of Nacelle with customized GUI used by GE engineers for creation of geometry, 2D CFD analysis and writing outputs which can be used for 3D CFD analysis.

Also, Fan & Compressor airfoil are the key driver in engine performance. GE is a pioneer in blade design and technology. In this role, engineer will get a unique opportunity to understand the complex interaction of mechanical loads, aero performance and material technology that are seen in the design process.

The engineer will also be responsible for further enhancing geometry tool’s capabilities as per business need and fix issues in it as reported by Nacelle and airfoil designers. This role also demands aero geometry tools code deployment, testing and detailed validation before newer releases. The tool owner must actively interact with all Nacelle and airfoil design engineers to understand the ask and must follow LEAN approach to eliminate waste as per business need. In addition to the above, this role also demands strong collaboration with aero designers (Nacelle as well as Airfoil) users to empowering them in resolving issues/challenge faced while using Aero Geometry and fan & Compressor tools.

The role demands understanding of gas turbine fundamentals, converting engineering requirements into software needs, and collaborating with the design and hardware engineers.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate methods/algorithms/analytics and software in Aero geometry, Fan & Compressor airfoils

  • Assist in maintenance, deployment, and integration of aero geometry, Fan & Compressor airfoils tools

  • Support modernization of tools for end-user experience and system compatibility

  • Collaborate with and support design teams on software-based solutions for analysis tasks and standard work

  • Work collaboratively with Tech Lead and Team Manager for risk resolution and project management

  • Ensure on-time project deliverables & resolution of bugs and issues related to production software

  • Ensure proper validation, review, and documentation of analytical tools and methods

  • Implementing CAD algorithms in NX while ensuing desired connectivity between interfacing tools/methods and ensure all downstream tools could use geometry created.

  • Creating user interface (UI) specifications in accordance with enhancement request.

  • Developing and supporting existing tools in C, C++, NXOpen using CAD/CAM concepts which satisfies user requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of experience with bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering from accredited university or college (with a minimum of 3 years of experience in CAD/CAM domain)

  • Strong understanding of basic geometry (splines, surfaces etc), numerical solvers, structural analysis physics, simulation, and geometry

  • Minimum 3 years of software development experience in customizing design/analysis tools (NX/ANSYS-ADPL) & CAD tools (NX, NXOpen, Ufunc) using C/C++/Python.

  • Strong knowledge in NX-Modeling/NX-Simulation and ANSYS APDL

  • Experience in GUI development using QT.

  • Exposure to SDLC processes and experience in deploying customized CAD tools to users.

  • Experience of Interactive NX modelling and NX coding using Ufunc, NXOpen in C/C++/Python.

  • Passionate towards learning new methods processes in CAD and geometry creation.

  • A self-learner who will drive the project independently with correct definition of a problem statement to proposing a solution and finally attempting to creatively solve it.

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional environment with strong communication and presentation skills.

Desired Characteristics

  • Ufunc, Nxopen, C, C++, programming, QT for GUI, shell scripting, python scripting.

  • Ansys ADPL programming, C++ (OOPS), Python.

  • Build multi-type program interfaces, resolve dependencies, and deploy software packages

  • Introductory knowledge of geometry -> CFD meshing -> CFD solver process.

  • Proven skills of component design process integration (CAD – Meshing – Solver – Post processing)

  • Should be aware about ML and optimization methods

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to influence others.
