This role is a member of the Medical & Scientific Affairs team within Global Research, Clinical Collaborations, Health Economics & Policy organization, this role is responsible for driving GEHC's agenda in the clinical community, with the objective of supporting independent scientific exchange with top strategic partners. This role will serve as liaison between commercial,research & development activities & target key opinion leaders in support of product roadmap development, tech innovation, & research needs.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
The Scientific Affairs Director will define near, medium and long-term objectives, covering a broad range of medical and scientific affairs activities, and will perform the following functions (not all inclusive)
Serve as an independent (without commercial objectives) enabler of scientific exchange directly with healthcare professionals, healthcare institutions, and customers and in support of GE Healthcare commercial and R&D organizations and team members
Serve as a leader in aggregating scientific, clinical, and technical customer-focused insights and strategic perspectives
Identify partners and projects based on robust product, technology, and research strategies aligned with innovation/product priorities and modality strategic research needs
Work with Modality Research teams in the development of investigator sponsored research in alignment with GEHC Strategic Research Needs Process
Serve as a single-point of contact between GE Healthcare and identified strategic partners in matters related to (non-commercial) strategic research, evidence, and program management.
Support the sales and marketing organizations by bridging the R&D and marketing and engineering divisions within GE Healthcare
Drive acceptance of GE Healthcare’s product claims in the clinical community by forming networks between KOL and the Outcomes research teams to generate clinical evidence, earning the market’s endorsement and resulting in product utilization enhancements
Identify external clinical opinions, perceptions and trends that influence GE Healthcare’s product and innovation strategies, performance in the market, and where warranted, develop appropriate mitigating strategies in partnership with applicable GEHC functions
Engage key professional groups and establishing strong relationships that enhance our corporate image, as well as increase understanding of GE Healthcare’s portfolio of products
Establish and drive a scientific agenda in (market), by engaging researchers through GE Healthcare’s activities and partnerships, including where appropriate, conducting studies that lead to publications in support of GE Healthcare’s innovation and product objectives
Work with key internal stakeholders, to ensure GE Healthcare is sufficiently engaging external KOLs, Academics, research partners, societies and other organizations to support development of strategies such as product development, innovation, evidence generation and research
Coordinate and manage advisory boards and other mechanisms of engagement with external stakeholders
Regional Travel Requirement of 50%
Ideal candidates will have both strong research and operational understanding of the market’s healthcare trends as it relates to GEHC’s product portfolio and applications. S/he will have a proven track record of developing and implementing programs that delivered strong and identifiable business impact. Finally, the ideal candidate should have a background in medical/scientific affairs from within the medical device industry or similar (either from the pharma or biotech industries).
Qualifications / Requirements
Master Degree in a technical discipline (e.g., engineering, physics, science, nursing) or a similar bachelor’s degree with 10+ years’ experience
Minimum 7 years’ experience in the medical technology or device industry
Depth of business acumen and ability to inform and communicate product, technology, innovation and research needs and strategies to internal and external stakeholders
Knowledge of applicable standards, laws and regulations governing research practices, compliance, and the separation of commercial and non-commercial activities
Excellent written and communication skills across various stakeholder groups including C-level leaders and researchers in healthcare institutions, GEHC business CEOs and general managers, GEHC sales and marketing, GEHC research personnel
Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize work
Ability to indirectly manage and influence across functional areas to align and determine priorities
Knowledge of institutional research practices, including research involving human subjects
Ability to effectively critique research designs and
Knowledge of US healthcare systems and clinical practices related to patient care
Desired Characteristics
Advanced degree (e.g., PhD, MD, MS, MPH) in a technical discipline (e.g., medicine, engineering, data science, science, nursing)
Previous experience in a senior role responsible for research or other external partnership and project management
Knowledge and experience with GE Healthcare products, research partners, and customers
