General Electric Senior Mechanical Engineer for Wind Turbine Components in Barcelona, Spain
Job Description Summary
Lead and perform design and analysis of mechanical parts & mechanical aspects of electrical components within wind turbine generators, e.g. structural parts, bolted joints, welded joints, critical supports, housings etc.
The senior design engineers take the responsibility of critical design decisions, with the appropriate analytical and risk management approach.
The Senior Design Engineer provides innovative design solutions and supports the product through the entire life cycle from conceptual design through design and development, testing, qualification, manufacturing, and installed fleet support. GE Wind Design Engineers drive technical excellence and continuous improvement in the design, cost, producibility and reliability of the component(s) under their responsibility.
Roles and Responsibilities
Design/Analysis by means of FEA and analytical methods (Extreme, fatigue and structural dynamics). Testing to prove component function and reliability.
Provide state of the art design solutions considering GE design practices and International Standards.
Create and revise drawings, specifications and design practices applying GE and industry processes and standards.
Knowledge management, technology watch and intellectual property.
Work cross functionally with other Engineering departments, Sourcing, Quality, Manufacturing, Services etc., as part of the product development cycle. Ensure issue resolution and quick corrective actions for design related causes (nonconformities).
Identify and execute cost saving ideas and strategies.
Drive quick, complete technical root cause analysis of field failures and identify design related corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Drive lessons learned, best practices and standardization into drawings, specifications, design practices and processes.
Bachelor/Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Proven engineering experience in Design/Product Development of the type of components specified in this job description. Proven experience in design, analysis and issue resolution.
Working knowledge of Unigraphics NX 3D-CAD.
Working knowledge of Ansys/Workbench.
Fluent in English, written and spoken.
Strong communication, interpersonal and project management skills.

Deep knowledge of design codes & standards.
Knowledge of different manufacturing processes.
Experience in wind turbine design.
Engineering experience in medium-big size industrial companies. Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries.
Ability to work under pressure and challenging conditions. Strong desire and ability to drive improvement and change.
Willingness to travel.
