Job Description Summary
The Principal Engineer is a recognized expert in wind turbine mechanical drive trains.
She/he demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. She/he integrates and develops processes that meet business needs across the organization and is involved in strategy and long-term planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within functional areas area of expertise.
operates within the Engineering organization, has alignment with, and is mentored by Consulting and Chief Consulting Engineers.
has demonstrated technical depth in a technical discipline while applying state-of-the-art technology to solve difficult technical problems. Additionally, influences how the discipline interacts with the larger system
identifies, develops, evaluates, and introduces engineering solutions to meet near term and long-term engineering needs.
leads and provides the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact by setting expectations at beginnings of projects, support during both the execution and review at the end.
maintains an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in own technical specialty in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs
provides technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues
effectively communicates and provides recommendations through the investigations, analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
uses knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs.
prepares invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage
contributes to external industrial, manufacturing or standard-setting bodies
provides technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced engineers, specialists, technicians and co-ops.
B.A./M.A. in Mechanical, Material Engineering, or equivalent.
Relevant experience in design and validation of drive train and related components such as gears, bearing, shafts, couplings etc.
Relevant experience in validating mechanical components in test rigs and field prototypes.
Understanding of failure modes and mechanisms for mechanical components
Strong oral and written English communication skills.
Reliability calculation for wind turbine mechanical components.
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred.
