This role is a design engineering role where the scope of the team includes Power Conversion (PC) electrical sub-systems for GE offshore wind turbines

The purpose of the job will cover from specification, design, and functional specification to the validation of wind power converter/converter/transformer module of GE offshore wind turbines.

In this role, you will deliver engineering designs/requirements, execute business critical New Product Introductions, drive cost competitiveness, and ensure world class subsystem performance of the biggest offshore Wind Turbine up to date. You will work together with Supply Chain, EHS, Operations relevant stakeholders among others, to deliver the best solution from a whole value chain perspective.

Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.

The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Job Description

The Power Converter/transformer lead engineer is responsible for the following pillars:

  • Converter/transformer design specification considering the requirement flowing down from turbine system design

  • Ensure proper converter/transformer integration in turbine with support of Converter/transformer Product Design Engineer (cooling, electrical, mechanical interfaces)

  • Ensure proper tradeoff in performance, quality, weight, lifetime, maintainability and cost over the full turbine lifecycle (from supplier manufacturing and test, converter/transformer integration and test in turbine during nacelle manufacturing phase, to turbine operation phase).

  • Lead converter/transformer technical review with supplier to ensure converter/transformer performance as per specification on active part design, tank construction, design FMEA, support to PFMEA with SQE

  • Lead Electrical protection strategy at converter/transformer level, at turbine level (interface with control and switchgear) but as well wind farm integration level.

  • Ensure proper interfaces with HV/MV connectors & cables and power converter/transformer.

  • Coordinate Finite Element Analysis with supplier and GE Engineering chief office.

Responsibilities include:

  • Full ownership and accountability for design, development, testing and certification of appointed sub-system.

  • Drive compliance of components and their use to international codes and standards like IEC, UL, CSA, CE, etc.

  • Ensure quality of deliverables, on time delivery, design cost, DFMEA, performance, availability, weight and general targets defined by the business related to the sub-system.

  • Ensure sub-system full integrated solution, interface with mechanical, controls as well as power conversion neighbored components systems.

  • Ensure proper design reviews and documentation quality according to RE-120 Instruction and defined project gates.

  • Perform Engineering Excellence and provide innovative design solutions to deliver world class quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Significant technology and/or product management experience.

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).

  • Experienced in power converter/transformer design (as design engineer, or as manufacturing experience, or as certification entity)

Desired Characteristics

  • Wind industry expertise with proven results developing & implementing technology programs.

  • Wind turbine Machine Head and related component technical and business expertise.

  • Knowledge of Power converter/transformer Standards and Design Codes.

  • o Skilled in electrical component design calculations, drawings creation, specifications and schematics.

  • Demonstrated system thinking: ability to assess tradeoffs, effectively assess risk, and optimize results.

  • Business acumen and customer focus.

  • Demonstrated ability to work horizontally across stakeholders to influence outcomes.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including: ownership, self-motivated, problem solving, analytical, team player, communication skills and ability to develop relationships.
