Job Description Summary
The purpose of the job is the execution and management of all engineering activities to deliver quality design for the mechanical and electrical components within the towers of GE offshore wind turbines.
The responsibilities of the M&E Engineer will range from conceptual design and development of functional specifications to detailed design, testing and validation of the different sub-systems and components inside the towers of the GE offshore wind turbines. Furthermore, he will be interfacing with external entities for certification of the design of the tower sub-systems/components.
Based on GE’s new product development strategy as well as project-specific customer requirements, the employee will deliver engineering designs, execute business-critical New Product Introductions, drive cost competitiveness and ensure world class sub-system performance for the tower of the biggest offshore wind turbine developed up to date. The range of mechanical components includes items such as access ladders, secondary steel platforms, anchor points, lifting devises, service lift and davit crane. Moreover, the role covers interface with corresponding components within the sub-structure.
The Engineer will work together with all relevant stakeholders such as customers, project managers, sub-structure designers, supply chain, health & safety, quality and operations to deliver the best solution from a whole value chain perspective.
Roles and Responsibilities
Full ownership and accountability for design, development, testing and certification of appointed sub-system.
Full ownership of calculation methodology, mechanical validation and certification of design for components inside the tower. Performance of mechanical/structural calculations if needed.
Drive compliance of components and their use to international codes and standards like IEC, UL, CSA, ISO, CE, CCC, DIN, DNVGL, etc.
Ensure quality of deliverables, on time delivery, design cost, DFMEA, EHS performance, availability, weight and general targets defined by the business related to the appointed sub-system.
Ensure fully integrated solution for each sub-system as well as smooth interface with mechanical, controls and power conversion systems.
Ensure proper design reviews and documentation quality according to GE specifications and defined project gates.
Provide innovative design solutions to deliver world class quality.
Drive changes across the engineering change management system.
Knowledge of Electrical Engineering would be beneficial
Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or related discipline.
Significant proven experience in technology and/or product management experience.
Fluent in English (spoken and written).
Wind industry expertise with proven results developing & implementing technology programs.
Technical expertise in mechanical components for offshore wind turbine towers & sub-structures.
Knowledge of offshore wind standards and design codes.
Skilled in mechanical component design calculations and specifications.
Experience with 3D CAD tools (NX).
Experience in finite element (FE) simulations including modelling and analysis using advanced software packages (Ansys).
Knowledge of calculation methods related to the strength of materials, metallurgy and welding processes are added values for the job.
Demonstrated system thinking, ability to assess tradeoffs, effectively assess risk, and optimize results.

Demonstrated ability to work horizontally across stakeholders to influence outcomes.
Strong interpersonal skills including ownership, self-motivation, problem solving, analytical thinking and teamwork, excellent communication skills and ability to develop relationships.
