General Electric Lead Electrical Engineer in Barcelona, Spain

Job Description Summary

The Fleet Electrical engineer will provide technical leadership on electrical systems to improve installed wind turbine fleet and support projects execution in the customer support engineering organization.

You will be responsible for Electrical Low voltage components and act on all phases of product development, from requirements to development and validation to ensure customer requirements are exceeded, within safety, quality, time, and cost.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide innovative design solutions to meet requested functionality, timing, cost and reliability targets.

  • Execute Engineering design work on wind turbine electrical components and their assembly within the wind turbine system.

  • Ownership for low voltage electrical wind turbine components, which includes definition of requirements and characteristics, technical clarification, interface definition, prototyping, testing, homologation and introduction into manufacturing up to issue resolution in the installed fleet.

  • Drive compliance of components and their use to international codes and standards like IEC, UL, CSA, ISO, CE, CCC, DIN etc.

  • Support other departments (Service, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Services, EHS…) integrating their needs in the design and defining contingency actions when needed.

  • Work closely with the Supplier Quality organization to ensure design CTQs are tested properly, as well as met and maintained in the serial production process.

  • Work closely with the project teams to identify all required product customization and drive the corresponding engineering processes to meet the requirements (NCR, EC, etc.)

  • Perform technical root cause analysis of eventual failures arising from the assembly plants, installation or turbine operation and identify design changes needed to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Identify reliability and performance improvements for components to ensure that the wind Turbine excels in commercial performance. Promote design for reliability and ensure the return of experience to the new product introduction teams

  • Participate in the technological watch, actively promoting both the protection and the development of GE’s intellectual property.

  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical material to internal and external audiences

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university in Engineering

  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience working on electrical systems related projects, issues and/or technologies.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in engineering product development processes.

  • Skilled in electrical component design calculations, drawings, specifications and schematics.

  • Highly knowledgeable on Electrical Auxiliaries (Power Supply & UPS, Electrical Cabinets, Instrumentation, Lightning & Grounding System, , Vibration Monitoring System, …), Controls and communication network

  • Experience in wind Turbine Certification Processes, international codes and standards for electrical components (IEC, CSA, ISO, CE, CCC, DIN, IEEE, NFPA, ULs)

  • Field issues, test and/or validation experience

  • Effective problem identification and solving ability (RCA).

  • Strong technical aptitude, interpersonal skills, and leadership skills

  • Used to deal with industrial suppliers (national and international)

  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment

  • Positive mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).

  • Experience in wind turbine business is a plus

  • Fluent in Spanish or French is a plus (written and spoken)
