General Electric Lead Electrical Drive Systems Engineer in Barcelona, Spain

Job Description

As a Fleet Electrical drive systems engineer, you will own the pitch, yaw and slip ring systems and subcomponents and bring technical expertise to improve installed wind turbine fleet.

You will act on all phases of product development, from requirements to development, validation and in-service maintainability and reliability improvements to meet end product requirements while maintaining the highest standards of EHS, quality, timeliness and cost.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Engineering design changes management and design non-conformities resolution on assigned systems/components.

  • Ensure your sub-system are fully integrated, with focus on mechanical interfaces & controls

  • Manage and mitigate the technical risks associated to your components through the project gates and products lifecycle using systematic methodologies such as DFMEAs or root cause analysis (RCA) and the creation and follow up of validation plans.

  • Effective problem identification and solving ability (RCA).

  • Manage own systems in the predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance systems.

  • Lead the investigation of the systems controls software issues, participate in identifying and implementing improvements in the systems controls platform strategies.

  • Field test specification and field data analysis

  • Participate in the technological watch, actively promoting both the protection and the development of GE’s intellectual property.

  • You will work with externals suppliers and coordinate, review and approve their designs to match your requirements.

  • You will work together with Service, Supply Chain, and EHS amongst others, to deliver the best solution from a whole value chain perspective.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. Preferably in electrical engineering.

  • Solid electrical knowledge in drive systems (AC/DC motors and inverters, sensors, controllers, energy storage alternatives…)

  • Solid electrical knowledge in electrical cabinets design (Power supply, auxiliary, cables, sensors, electrical connections, surge protection devices, power cable sizing and insulation, fuses, contactors, circuit breakers, grounding, etc)

  • Proven results developing & implementing technology programs, preferably in the wind industry.

  • Knowledge of industry standard communication protocols (CAN; Profinet, EtherCAT)

  • Knowledge of controls related sensors and actuators

  • Knowledge of safety system design and practices (SIL or PL levels based on IEC 62061or ISO 13849)

  • Knowledge on digital tools to predict and ensure the systems reliability.

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).

Desired Characteristics

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical component and systems development including participation in creation of specifications, design, calculation and validation, preferably in the wind industry

  • Industrial knowledge of real-time systems and PLC programming based in Codesys.

  • Experience with electrical CAD and mechanical tools (i.e. ePLAN, Solidworks, NX)

  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills including ownership, self-motivated, problem solving, analytical, team player, communication skills and ability to develop relationships.
