General Electric Lead Design for Serviceability Engineer in Barcelona, Spain

Job Description Summary

The Services Engineering Productivity team owns optimization of technical planned maintenance requirements for improved serviceability on wind turbines. The team has direct impact on the experience of customers regarding the effectiveness of service from GE, and the scope covers the entire turbine system for all turbine platforms in all global regions. This role focuses on Design for Serviceability (DFS) and provides key expertise working with new unit design teams to enhance the system-level serviceability and to develop service procedures for maintenance on new wind turbine designs.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

As Lead Design for Serviceability (DFS) Engineer on the Services Engineering Productivity team, you will:

  • Champion DFS and define requirements for new wind turbine (WT) products to minimize planned maintenance cost, while ensuring that product operational quality and safety is maintained or improved. Contribute to ideas for life-cycle improvement and support business case evaluation

  • Calculate life-cycle costs for planned maintenance on new WT products. Create plans to validate planned maintenance costs and serviceability on new WT prototypes

  • Collaborate with global product design engineers, regional service teams, etc to improve WT designs and optimize technical service procedures for improved maintenance

  • Champion improved technician safety and ergonomics during execution of planned maintenance and other service work

  • Create or update technical service documents for use as technician work instructions and tooling lists regarding planned maintenance, minor repairs, and advanced trouble shooting guides

  • Manage updates to maintenance manuals and related documents such as lubrication and bolt torque specifications

  • Contribute to lean standardization of engineering methods used to deliver DFS and service technical documents

  • Clearly communicate project status, issues, risks, benefits, and recommendations to leadership & business stakeholders. Present results in product design reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced technical degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant technical experience

  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English

  • EU Work Permit

  • Prior experience with maintenance of complex industrial, automotive, aircraft, or power generation equipment, especially if related to Wind turbines

  • Passion for safety of technicians and ease of serviceability

  • System thinking and life cycle thinking to drive requirement setting, innovation, optimization, design trades, and risk mitigation

  • Motivated and innovative in finding viable solutions to meet deliverables with minimal oversight

  • Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence stakeholders across global organization to drive change

  • Ability to multi-task and successfully balance multiple deliverables

  • Ability to review new engineering designs and provide feedback for serviceability enhancements

  • Prior experience in developing, optimizing, and documenting technical procedures
