Job Description Summary
The Plant Controls Lead Engineer will be responsible for leading requirements flow down for the design, implementation and validation of the networks, SCADA, and communications in Offshore Wind Farms.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
Design and enhancement of networks, SCADA and wind farm communications, coordinating with teams within Renewable Engineering, Services and New Technology on current and future product needs.
Lead design, implementation, and validation of windfarm network communication system as well as for SCADA product.
Write and maintain functional specifications for new or modified requirements.
Work with individual product teams to ensure cyber secure designs and standards are integrated into network and SCADA systems.
Provide technical assistance in evaluating performance and results of SCADA applications, systems and procedures.
Lead estimation and design of customer proposals from a Network, Security, and Controls and SCADA perspective.
Participate in identifying and implementing improvements in product and platform strategies.
Interface with simulations team and incorporate wind farm and/or SCADA requirements into test platforms, as part of control system design and maintenance strategies.
Support services organization in customer network communication issues and provide resolutions
Track updates and changes to security standards, specifically NERC CIP, WIB M2784-X-10, IEC 62443 and ISA 99, and apply these standards to wind farm designs
Coach and update engineering teams on technical developments, design and tools.
Occasionally act as customer-facing SME, answering questions and inspiring confidence.
Qualifications/Requirements
Degree in Control Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical or Network Engineering from an accredited College or University
Industrial knowledge of real-time systems, IP address management, knowledge of industry standard communication protocols and common fieldbus protocols
Experience in configuration and management of related devices.
Strong knowledge of wind turbine first principles and communications.
Knowledge of the Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI) model and data transmission and communication.
Excellent knowledge of security system design and practices
Familiarity and practical experience with agile methodologies
Proven ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment.
Track record of meeting or exceeding schedule and quality targets
Strong oral and written communication skills
Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Effective problem identification and solution skills
Strong interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills and a positive energy
Willingness to travel to site occasionally
Desired Characteristics
Experience with industrial redundant networks
Experience with GE’s MarkVIe or similar PLC’s
Minimum of 5 years of wind industry experience with a focus on plant controls systems
Strong analytical approach to problem solving
Strong written communication skills
