Role Summary/Purpose

As the Grid & Electrical Integration Lead Engineer, you will be the key point of contact between the GE project execution team, the various GE Engineering departments (e.g. Grid Integration, Controls, System Integration, Electrical), the external parties and the Customer. You will ensure all parties agree on the Grid Integration technical scope, interfaces and responsibilities and monitor the implementation plan throughout design phase and until testing at site is achieved successfully. You leverage your strong expertise in wind power systems and relevant wind industry simulation tools to coordinate between our clients and the GE Grid integration engineers. This role is planned to cover multiple projects assignments and multiple phases (commercial, execution, fleet) depending on the workload and priorities defined by the business.

Role Summary/Purpose

As the Grid & Electrical Integration Lead Engineer, you will be the key point of contact between the GE project execution team, the various GE Engineering departments (e.g. Grid Integration, Controls, System Integration, Electrical), the external parties and the Customer. You will ensure all parties agree on the Grid Integration technical scope, interfaces and responsibilities and monitor the implementation plan throughout design phase and until testing at site is achieved successfully. You leverage your strong expertise in wind power systems and relevant wind industry simulation tools to coordinate between our clients and the GE Grid integration engineers. This role is planned to cover multiple projects assignments and multiple phases (commercial, execution, fleet) depending on the workload and priorities defined by the business.

Essential Responsibilities

In this Lead Engineering role, you will:

  • Support the Senior Requisition Engineering (Project Engineering Manager) in the analysis of Customer requirements and site specific regulations concerning the Gird Integration and electrical system design during the project execution for Offshore Wind Projects.

  • Ensure compliance with the contract and applicable grid code for the Haliade X and the GE Wind Park Controller system (WindCONTROL), including interfaces with the Customer Control/SCADA systems or grid operator.

  • Define & implement the strategy for the development of the electrical models and simulations to fulfill the contract obligations.

  • Follow up the verification of the turbine electrical and controls capability by simulation studies.

  • Own the interfaces management with the Customer or their contractors with focus on electrical equipment like turbine switchgear electrical configuration and protection design, transformer, HV cable, auxiliaries, converter, etc.

  • Ensure the optimization of the turbine operation during the farm various conditions (normal and contingency situations).

  • Identify additional scope arising from the interfaces and communicate to project management.

  • Share feedback with the commissioning and service teams with the relevant engineering documentation, project experience.

  • Lead internal grid code compliance testing activities and support the Customer during Grid Code testing with grid operator.

  • Support the Customer during the Grid Compliance Process with the grid operator on the scope related to Haliade X and GE Wind Park Controller

  • Share feedback with the engineering team NPI for lessons learned.

This will include project management responsibilities, like:

  • Identify Risks & Opportunities and propose mitigation plans.

  • Define grid and electrical activities to be included in the project planning.

  • Monitor progress and be accountable for the on-time delivery of all activities relative to his scope of responsibility.

  • Report out on progress and issues in customer meetings and internal engineering reviews.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD degree in wind, electrical, electronics engineering, or related field of study.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in wind industry, electrical or electric power engineering.

  • Demonstrated experience in technical performance analysis of electric power systems with power electronic sources or loads.

  • Experience with simulation tools (PSCAD / PowerFactory required, and MATLAB / PSSE desired).

  • Experience in analyzing grid codes, extracting requirement end define system/component specification for meeting that grid codes.

  • Experience in grid code compliance testing.

  • Experience with time-domain simulation tools, specifically programming, tuning, and using user-written “black box” models in PSCAD for wind turbine generators, or other advanced power electronic based systems, desired.

  • Knowledge of relevant wind industry Standards and Design Codes.

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

  • Ability and availability to travel (national and international) 10% of the year.

  • Strong, self-directed, collaborative team player with interpersonal, communication, & presentation skills.

  • Comfortable providing technical presentations to peers, customers, and leadership regarding the details of technical issues and project status. Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems.
