General Electric Senior Operation Management Staff Manager in Asheville, North Carolina

Role Summary:

The Senior Operation Management Staff Manager will be responsible for the safe operation of the Services Components manufacturing area, ensuring components are fabricated on time, in accordance with quality requirements, and within budget. Responsibilities include all manufacturing operations in the SCO facility including control rods and service components. This role is responsible for approximately 25 non-union employees (exempt and hourly).

Essential Responsibilities:

As the Senior Operation Management Staff Manager, you will:

  • Provide leadership in the attainment of goals with respect to Integrity, Safety, Quality and Output (ISQO)

  • Be responsible for outstanding performance in the areas EHS and regulatory compliance, including active involvement in safety team activities

  • Drive and support continuous improvement activities, maintain proper cost controls, and support customer needs and requirements

  • Be required to work across the organization, manage complex issues within functional areas of expertise

  • Be involved in long-term planning and contribute to the overall business strategy

  • Building manager for Emergency Response Organization (ERO)

  • Drive positive customer engagement with regards to product fabrication, quality processes, and fabrication oversight

  • Lead the teams to achieve production and budget commitments to meet business objectives

  • Ensure communication of key business / customer issues to employees

  • Promote team growth through employee recognition

  • Drive Lean Six Sigma quality and process / product improvement programs

  • Interface with other organizations, customers and suppliers to assure requirements are met on time

  • Structure assigned organization and staff positions with personnel to accomplish business objectives

  • Select, hire, train, develop and provide ongoing leadership and direction of assigned personnel

  • Provide ongoing supervision and coaching for employees, guiding them in current positions and assisting with career development and training


  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in engineering or a technical discipline

  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in manufacturing

Desired Characteristics:

  • Demonstrated experience in nuclear industry

  • Prior experience in machine shop environment

  • Knowledge of products, business processes, customers, and competitive environment

  • Demonstrated track record of developing and meeting schedules / milestones and financial goals

  • Demonstrated facilitation, team building, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated experience in working with cross-functional teams on technical matters

  • Demonstrated computer skills and ability to quickly learn new operating systems

  • Prior experience in a customer-facing role

  • Ability to effectively communicate across organizational boundaries

  • Capable of working without boundaries to accomplish critical tasks
