General Electric Government Accounting Leader in Asheville, North Carolina

Role Summary:

The Government Accounting leader will be responsible for ensuring government compliance over GEH and GNF-A government programs and billings.

Essential Responsibilities:

As the Government Accounting Leader you will:

  • Manage financial compliance within government programs

  • Lead government program audits performed under the Single Audit Act

  • Provide oversight over contractor resources performing bookkeeping and reporting functions for financial compliance

  • Prepare/review monthly invoices to the Department of Energy for project expense reimbursements.

  • Represent finance on Nuclear Government Center of Excellence and address financial aspects of upcoming proposals

  • Lead contact for reporting and analysis of monthly results for project labor cost

  • Manage the labor vouchering process required for the Dept of Energy project

  • Compile data and create accruals for monthly and annual closings

  • Analyze GE Labor and Variable Work Force Labor

  • Manage the expense reimbursement accounting for travel and living

  • Ensure compliance required for Dept of Energy projects

  • Research/assist in correction of missing labor costs

  • Assist GE Employees and sub-contractors with Oracle time vouchering and T/L Systems

  • Run Oracle and Tableau Reports for Labor, VWF and T/L detail

  • Identify and implement internal control and process improvements as needed

  • Assist in oversight of annual government audits

  • Assist in the preparation of presentations to management, staff, customers and sub-contractors

  • Perform account reconciliations for government balances


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; additional CPA certification preferred

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience

Desired Characteristics:

  • Certified Public Accountant

  • Supervisory/Management experience for 2 or more individuals

  • Government reporting/programs experience

  • Experience with FAR 15 contracts

  • Advanced Accounting knowledge

  • Self-starter with ability to take initiative

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient in problem solving and prioritizing

  • Work effectively with all levels of employees

  • Able to handle multiple tasks under pressure

  • Detail oriented

  • Advanced Excel skills
