General Electric Sr Build & Release Engineer in Arlington Heights, Illinois

Role Summary:

GE is looking for a Senior Build and Release Engineer to join our Enterprise Imaging Build and Release/DevOps team. The team designs and maintains our virtual infrastructure that hosts our build and test activities for several medical imaging and workflow products used globally by caregivers. Essential Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for managing our virtual build and test infrastructure for our medical imaging engineering team, leveraging your knowledge of virtualization, network engineering, and automation to provide long-term, scalable solutions. As you grow in this position you will receive an increasing level of responsibility and help us drive our strategy throughout the organization.

In this role you will:

  • Design, deploy, and administer multiple VMware-based virtualization platforms utilizing VMware vSphere. Manage storage devices used by virtualization platforms.

  • Handle all aspects of new hardware deployments including hardware specifications, quoting, and provisioning.

  • Contribute to network design, including design prototyping in virtual or lab environments. Implement network solutions, including router/switch/firewall configuration.

  • Troubleshoot network and network related issues, provide route/switching support in production networks

  • Act as a point of contact for escalations from engineering teams and corporate IT staff.

  • Provide training and guidance to junior team members who act as administrators for their functional engineering teams.

  • Implement automation and scripting to reduce manual tasks.

  • Document systems and configurations for ease of support for other members of the team.

  • Work with our CI/CD and automation engineers and assist with the development of our CI/CD infrastructure.

  • Provide guidance towards cloud infrastructure including AWS.

  • Define quality metrics and implement best practices across the organization.

  • Demonstrate increasing expertise in application domain and product functionality. Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math)

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the industry related to infrastructure virtualization, network engineering, configuration management, CI/CD, software development and or software test engineering. Eligibility Requirements: (Country Specific)

  • Must be willing to travel <10% Desired Characteristics: Technical Expertise:

  • Strong experience designing, deploying, configuring, and maintaining VMware vSphere and associated products (ESXi, vCenter, Airwatch/Workspace ONE, Horizon/View, vSAN, UAG)

  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts and their interactions with virtual switches/hosts.

  • Software application or automated test development experience using object-oriented programming languages including Java, automation frameworks like Selenium, and IDEs such as IntelliJ.

  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Perl, Ruby, or Groovy.

  • Exposure to software build and continuous deployment/delivery systems and tools such as: Electric Commander/Electric Flow, Jenkins, Maven, Nexus Repository, Artifactory or equivalent.

  • Understanding of interacting with various types of infrastructure including Cloud (AWS, Skytap) and/or VMWare including utilization of container technology. Personal Attributes:
