General Electric Wind Farm Field Service Technician - Nominated Electrical Supervisor (Ararat VIC) in Ararat, Australia

Job Description Summary

Your role as the Wind Farm Field Service Technician - Nominated Electrical Supervisor will see you interface regularly with the Service Management, Client, internal technical team, other GE Onshore wind farms, contractors and the local community.

You will also supervise and report on all electrical installation works when performing scheduled and unscheduled servicing of wind turbines and site infrastructure. You are required to be appointed as the Nominated Electrical supervisor under the Registered Electrical Contactors license on behalf of the company for the Ararat Site.

Relocation assistance provided for candidates that are not local but willing to relocate to the area of or nearby to Ararat VIC.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Nominated as the High Voltage operating Authority delegate for the Ararat site.

  • Interpret the requirements of GE manuals, specifications, bulletins and complete assigned tasks in accordance with GE work instructions

  • Have a working knowledge of electrical installation requirements provided in the following documents (as amended from time to time):

  • Plumbers, Gas Fitters and Electricians Act 1995

  • Electricity Safety (General) Regulations

  • Electricity Safety (Registration and Licensing) Regulations

  • AS/NZS 3000, Wiring Rules and all other standards applicable to your work including referenced sections of the Building Code of Australia (BCA)

  • Victorian Switching Manual

  • Managing Electrical Risks in the work place Code of Practice

  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with the above documents and to the organisation’s SWMS, LOTO, associated EHS & QA/QC policies/procedures.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) responsibilities for thestate of Victoria

  • Perform and ensure the proper maintenance and fault finding of assets

  • Maintain reports using GE’s various software management tools and databases

  • Report errors, violations, incidents or problems immediately using GE reporting systems

  • Submit enquiries to Engineering to ensure technical issues are resolved

  • Answer questions from Management, Engineering, Sourcing and Project Teams as required

  • Make a conformance or non-conformance decision upon completion of inspections

  • Form part of an on-call roster to work weekends and nights if required or as directed by management

  • Perform high voltage switching operations according to site procedures.

  • Authorise personnel in accordance with the High Voltage Safety procedures.

  • Be familiar with and follow all EHS policies, and procedures applicable to their job

  • Report any injuries, spills, near misses or related incidents and any concerns about a possible request to violate this policy and call attention to fellow employees of unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and practices to their Manager, Supervisor, and EHS Manager/Coordinator

  • Cooperate with GE investigations and EHS audits


  • As a minimum, hold a registeredWorkers License Electrical in the state of Victoria

  • Required to be nominated as the Electrical Supervisor in accordance with the Registered Electrical Contactors license and hold the position as theNominated Electrical Supervisoron behalf of the company for theAraratSite.

  • Understanding of basic AC/DC electrical circuits and ability to T/S and conduct circuit analysis (24VDC, 166VDC, 120, 230, 400, 575, 690VAC);

  • Have a current High Voltage operating certificate or the ability to gain one.

  • Proficient in fault finding electrical, mechanical and hydraulic equipment.

  • Trained to an intermediate level in computer skills.

  • Must have positive attitude and the ability to complete physically demanding tasks at heights.

  • Be on the weekend on-call roster

  • Be able to travel from time to time

Desired Characteristics

  • Hold a Cert IV in OH&S

  • Hold a nationally recognized High Voltage Operator Certificate

  • Leadership or Supervisor Training

  • Previous experience working as an electrical supervisor

  • Previous High Voltage switching experience.

  • Previous experience in the wind industry this is not essential.
