Role Summary/Purpose

Commercial Manager - Software is responsible for providing customized proposals to customers for several GE’s product lines, including SaaS, GridIQ, EMS, DMS, OMS, ADMS, GIS, & related applications. Responsible for ensuring technical requirements, commercial requirements, and overall proposal generation activities are completed and are within deal creation process guidelines, and demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives.

Essential Responsibilities

In this position, you will:

  • Be responsible for generating proposals for the Software Solutions product lines

  • Own the development of proposals with support from engineering, sourcing, projects, and other functions

  • Manage vendors and partners when necessary to complete proposal activities and contract negotiations

  • Adhere to the risk process (Policy 5.0, Bustam, etc)

  • Ensure the commercial (contractual, business terms and pricing) and technical aspects of the proposal are complete and present our solutions in the most competitive way

  • Ensure process adherence to all government contracting requirements

  • Drive an improved Order to Remittance (OTR) turnover process to ensure proper control of contract flow-down requirements

  • Be responsible for proposal document control and archiving, per policy

  • Fill out the Risk Checklist and/or SPEAK to present terms and risk issues to the business

  • Maintain a complete record of approvals on terms and conditions within the approved GE tools

  • Conduct and lead negotiations with customers and partners when necessary to appropriately resolve contractual issues to finalize deals

  • Work within the established Software Solutions Deal Review Process

  • Understand and support the implementation of order - booking requirements

  • Take personal responsibility for quality and accuracy of proposal response related to terms and conditions and commercial risk management, and for winning business with integrity and within the strategies set forth for the opportunity


  • Juris Doctor degree (Law), or Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Technology field

  • Minimum of 4 years of professional work experience in sales / proposals

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with commercial terms and conditions
