Role Summary:

The Global Logistics Customs Compliance Manager will be responsible for creating and managing the GE Water Customs Compliance program and providing direct oversight of team in region on customs related matters. This position will require a mix of Customs & business operations expertise and the ability to be a strong advocate for change.

Essential Responsibilities:

You must be able to mobilize and organize a cross functional team supporting business operations globally driving two way communications & global process transparency. The position will engage in leading projects, developing solutions, creating SOP’s and other initiatives to support GE Water’s International Trade Compliance activities.

As the Global Logistics Customs Compliance Manager, you will:

  • Establish and implement a robust Global Compliance program which includes identifying risk areas, installing procedures for mitigation and evaluating / improving internal controls

  • Hire a team of functional and operational Logistics / Compliance leaders

  • Lead regional Customs Leaders to mitigate risk and support efficient, compliant clearance operations

  • Partner with the Import / Export Global Operations Manager insuring timely customer deliveries (OTD)

  • Implement an audit review process which includes financial flow monitoring and reporting

  • Drive the HTS classification strategy and establish global process continuity

  • Develop the GE Water Special Programs needed to insure Free Trade status, duty avoidance and duty drawback

  • Work closely with Global Operations and Suez on setting the Water Compliance SOP’s

  • Lead the charge for global process standardization

  • Establish business wide continuous compliance training program

  • Maintain cross-functional relationships through regular meeting rhythms with the key stakeholders and through quarterly business reports and metric discussions

  • Provide expert customs guidance and advice on Compliance added value touch points from ITO through OTR

  • Lead Customs inquiries and investigative requests, drive root cause and preventive actions

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college (or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in International Trade or global Import / Export operations for a multinational company)

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in International Trade or global Import / Export operations for multinational company

Desired Characteristics:

  • Extensive knowledge of import regulations, foreign customs requirements, HTS, trade finance programs, free trade agreements, and international logistics and shipping requirements

  • Proven track record of program management in developing, implementing and managing process solutions

  • Professional Customs Certification or Accreditation

  • Advanced Degree from an accredited university

  • Prior management experience leading global teams

  • Wing to wing expertise across customs processes

  • Demonstrated Compliance mindset

  • Demonstrated ability to use knowledge, experience, and instinct to make accurate and timely decisions

  • Demonstrated ability of working with all levels of internal and external organizations

  • Demonstrated ability to implement simple, fast, and non-bureaucratic process improvements

  • Experience in working with global teams and demonstrates a global mindset

  • Six Sigma Certified as Black Belt or Master Black Belt or equivalent quality certification

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated leadership experience

  • Superior analytical skills

  • Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization

  • Proven ability to adapt to / drive change across a global team in a dynamic business environment

  • SAP ERP System expertise
