Role Summary:

Baker Hughes, a GE company is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support advance bit design and performance at The Woodlands, TX facility. This individual will actively engage with Manufacturing, Quality, and Marketing/Operations to develop, expand and sustain a commercial product line.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Create Design and Manufacturing Packages utilizing 3-D modelling and document control software

  • Provide support for business interests of multiple BHGE product lines

  • Interface with Field, Manufacturing, and Technology groups to improve product performance and process efficiency

  • Select engineering techniques and utilize analysis tools to solve problems and makes sound design recommendations

  • Research bit performance and recommend design changes to achieve intended results

  • Drive continuous product and process improvements

  • Drive consistent usage of product design standards (and support updates)

  • Support Manufacturing with issue resolution

  • Communicate design updates to Field, Manufacturing, and Technology personnel

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years mechanical design experience or Master of Science Degree Mechanical Engineering with 1+ years of mechanical design experience

  • Experience with CAD (3D modeling and 2D drafting)

  • Possess strong problem solving skills

  • Drive technical discussions and resolve product issues

Desired Characteristics:

  • Roller cone drill bit design, development and application experience

  • Familiar with plug and/or composite milling practices

  • Hands-on experience with standard manufacturing practices (manual, NC machining, welding, etc.)

  • Solidworks or NX experience
