Role Summary/Purpose

The Plant Layout & Piping Designer is part of the engineering organization in a global organization within Environmental Control Solutions (ECS).

He/she is responsible for producing engineering and design deliverables of his/her discipline, necessary for project and proposal execution.

He/she is also responsible for providing leadership and supervision to the discipline engineering team, and manages and coordinates the engineering work relating to the discipline.

Essential Responsibilities

The Plant Layout & Piping Designer is the decision maker:

  • To select the optimum configuration of Plant Layout

  • To define technical solutions and workflows to be used by his/her engineering discipline in the projects under consideration of contract requirements

  • To approve technical documentation (including drawings) in project for his/her discipline

  • To decide and establish all measures in order to ensure good design and quality regarding engineering work

  • To manage his/her engineering workflow during project and tender execution

  • To define engineering documents of the discipline

  • The Plant Layout & Piping Designer is the decision maker:

  • to define the divisions of engineering work between Milan home office, partners / contractors, other GE entities etc.

  • to develop and implementing project execution strategy

  • to select vendors


  • High school required; associated degree preferred

  • Very Strong and proven professional experience in the plant layout & piping area of engineering

  • Strong experience in engineering/design of Plants (i.e. Power, Oil&Gas, Chemical, I&S, WtE, Industrial Plant) on EPC contracts basis

  • Good experience 3D Plant Design by PDS / PDMS and their technical training

  • Fluent English

  • Fluent Italian

  • Minimum of site experience (performing assistance in field in terms of layout and piping dwgs)

  • Availability to accept assignment on site, abroad

  • Project oriented mindset

  • Cost and time scheduling awareness

  • Good communication skills
