Role Summary/Purpose

The Application Engineer- Consulting Operations will work closely with the customer to develop new functionality, provide consulting services, develop core algorithms and systems, and train new users on the application and use of the software products.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Application Engineer - Consulting Operations, you will:

  • Enhance and develop core algorithms for GE MAPS software (used for power systems analysis)

  • Enhance and develop transmission modeling in GE MAPS

  • Execute on new product developments related to improved modeling

  • Enhance the MAPS User Interface

  • Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized

  • Work closely with customer to develop new functionality to meet the changing needs of the industry

  • Participate in sales and marketing activities, including customer presentations

  • Participate in software QA process and development of QA processes

  • Provide consulting services to internal and external clients utilizing power system analysis tools and methodologies

  • Train users on the application and use of software products

Qualifications/Requirements

  • PhD in Operations Research

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in electric power planning software development

  • Minimum of 3 years of programming experience in an engineering-oriented language

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with MS Office tools, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Access

  • Experience with Fortran, C or C++

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in software project management and execution

  • Experience working with production simulation tools in a consulting environment

  • Demonstrated knowledge of power systems generation, operations and control

  • Demonstrated knowledge of optimization techniques

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Algorithm development

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Linear and Mixed integer programming and decomposition techniques

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Ancillary service modeling Demonstrated knowledge of Reliability techniques

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Hydro Thermal coordination

  • Knowledge of Expansion planning

  • Strong ability to work in teams, and to work independently in providing technical services to customers
