Role Summary/Purpose

The EMEA Micrositing team is part of the EMEA Wind Farm Engineering organization responsible primarily for Wind Resource Assessment (WRA) and wind turbine Mechanical Loads analysis (MLA) and provides the technical interface with the commercial team and customers for turbine performance and turbine site suitability on Wind Turbine proposals. The EMEA Wind Micrositing WRA Lead Engineer will report directly to the EMEA WFE ITO Engineering Manager.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Support new units and services proposals by performing Wind Resource, Annual Energy Production, Turbine Layout Optimization and noise propagation Assessments

  • Translate measured wind conditions to wind resource characterizations and generate input conditions to Mechanical Loads Assessments

  • Support developing solutions to increase customer value and enable digital wind farm optimization

  • Support enhancing GE’s digital wind strategy for speed, productivity and accuracy

  • Explore methods that utilize mesoscale models to enable improved assessments of past and future site production and extended turbine life

  • Lead application engineering efforts to develop and evaluate methods to incorporate turbine operating data to complement pre & post construction met mast data and mesoscale models for wind resource and turbine siting

  • Support multi-layer data structuring and software development

  • Network with other WRA engineers for best practice sharing

  • Support/Lead Process changes allowing the team to achieve "Fulfillment Excellence" thru on-time delivery with first time quality for all proposals

  • Connect with team members regarding WRA process and technology improvements

  • Provide support to customers for wind resource assessment technical inquiries and communications, as well as review of customer specifications and site data. This includes interface with product teams to facilitate implementation of new WTG offerings & features

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science (Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, Atmospheric Science, or related) from an accredited college or university

• Professional work experience in Wind Resource Assessment (or similar)

  • Experience in wind resource assessment, site screening and feasibility or micrositing issues in the wind energy development process

  • Experience with WAsP, WAsP Engineering, OpenWind (or equivalent wind flow modeling), mesoscale wind methods, Wind Turbine micro-siting, and wind farm design

  • Experience in wind turbine loads analysis simulation software

  • Experience with layout optimization for wind farms

• Experience providing technical support to sales, commercial and marketing functions

• Strong written, oral, & presentation skills

  • Ability and willingness to accept challenges outside of technical expertise / comfort zone

  • Global experience with proven ability to work with international teams

• Self Motivated, Team player, with Demonstrated Creativity and Fulfillment

  • Strong proficiency in English

  • Software development and automation / digitalization experience

  • Experience designing and implementing digitization solutions to improve internal fulfillment processes and workflows
