Role Summary/Purpose

Avio Aero is reinforcing the focus to excellence in marine propulsion, where gas turbines are installed in the propulsion plant of ships (commercial and military vessels, cruise ships, fast ferries, etc.).

We are looking for a talented design engineer, expected to perform design activities within the Marine Engineering Design organization, with particular focus to gas turbines packages and relevant mechanical auxiliaries and components.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Support the team in the definition of technical knowledge expertise in gas turbine auxiliaries systems and components ( fuel, lube oil, starting, washing and fire-fighting skids, fans, filters, silencers, starter boards) in order to achieve the objectives of cost, performance and life.

  • Participate to the drafting of technical documents (i.e. drawings, schematics, specifications, reports) relative to the auxiliaries/components design and to the propulsion systems proposals to Customers

  • Proactively support and contribute to the coordination of activities with other Company departments, Customers (Shipyards) and Suppliers to implement product improvements

  • Support management of Quality Notifications (QN) for auxiliary systems and components,(i.e. provide indications to manage defective components).

  • Participate to the follow-up of “fielded engines”, consisting in engineering support to harbor tests and sea trials.


  • Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university

  • Experience in mechanical design, with knowledge in fluidic, heat exchange, noise and vibration

  • Some previous experience in a multi-disciplinary approach to various engineering areas of technology

  • Some previous experience in design of engine auxiliary systems with interface with suppliers

  • Basic knowledge of CAD tools as Unigraphics, AutoCAD

  • Fluent English and Italian language knowledge, both written and oral

  • PC proficiency

  • EU Work Permit

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Negotiation skills

  • Customer focused

Desired Characteristics

  • Interest/experience in marine products and applications

  • Knowledge of marine Certification rules, i.e. RINA, Bureau Veritas, etc.

  • Experience with Unigraphics CAD tool
