Joining the team within our Allen Gears Solutions business, you will undertake world-wide onshore & offshore gear installation, inspection & repair duties. Capable of working under pressure from the customer particularly in breakdown situations, you will assist the development of the Services Business by increasing our capacity to overhaul High Speed High Power Gears.
The role will involve the overhauling of a wide range of gear related products, potentially without OEM technical information and passing judgement of the suitability of parts for further service. Work locations could be at customer sites, PT gear repair facilities or regional TMS service centres. This position will be home based with frequent international travel, however there may be occasions when you will be required to visit the GE office.
Apply primary engineering practices and standards with an understanding of a wide range of manufacturing principle and processes.
Responsible for own output and quality of work, which has been pre-set and prioritised.
Varying degrees of problem solving will be required on a regular basis; there will be a strong emphasis on ‘getting the job done, on time, to Customer Expectations’
Willingness and ability to train other personnel to pass on knowledge and experience
Prepare risk assessments and method statements that may be required by the customer
Conduct on-site Pre-work risk assessments and adhere to all necessary EHS standards and procedures.
Represent the Company in front of the customer & promote the Company’s values & good name
Produce a full written electronic report on activities. Reports must be submitted promptly with the maximum amount of relevant information.
Enquire about other gearboxes that the customer may have, including non-Lufkin PT equipment, and any other business opportunities or ideas that may exist. This information should be passed to the Sales team at the earliest opportunity.
Provide other useful information from site including but not limited to: special lifting requirements, P.P.E or further tooling requirements.
Before site work, you may need to attend a briefing meeting with the Contracts Coordinator who is managing the contract and, if required, an Engineering team member. When the job is finished, attend a debriefing meeting to discuss the job with the Contracts Coordinator and Engineering team member if appropriate.
The ability to travel at a moment’s notice is essential. We will contact you on the Company provided Mobile Phone if you are required for work at short notice.
Competence in the use of overhead cranes and a full UK driving licence.
Inspection knowledge and experience is essential along with proficient use of standard measuring & alignment equipment.
A proven track record of demonstrating flexibility and adaptability, maintaining pace with critical schedules and have the ability to organise work effectively minimising customer downtime.
Book own travel, arrange business visas and travel medicals/vaccinations with appropriate GE providers.
You may be required to prepare a kit of tools to be sent to site prior to the start of the field service job if tolling is not available at site
There is an expectation to work long unsociable hours in order to exceed the customer requirements.
May be required to work weekends on the contract, subject to customer site requirement
Following work at a customer’s site, a period of stand down time will be allowed, as per the current UK legal requirements.
Site reports should be written up/completed at the customer’s premises and/or immediately following the Service work.
Signed Time Sheets and Expenses should also be completed and handed into the Manager with the Written Report upon job completion.
Any other duty deemed as reasonable and considered to be within your capabilities as requested by your Manager.
Time served modern apprenticeship combined with a structured training programme with HNC/HND or equivalent practical experience.
Successful candidates will need to have a valid or pass an Offshore Medical
Extensive Product knowledge of High Speed High Power gearing and maintenance requirements would be an advantage
Previous Marine Propulsion and/or offshore Engineering experience would be desirable
Good organisational skills and a willingness to assist the team to exceed the customers’ requirements
Self-motivation and the ability to work remotely
OPITO Approved Basic Offshore Safety Industry and Emergency Training Course & Additional Training in accordance with Mutual Recognition Document (UK, Norway, Netherlands, & Denmark)
