Role Summary/Purpose

As the Lead Sourcing Specialist you will drive the strategic sourcing of all the research service related agreements with Universities, international research facilities and related government research efforts for GE Global Research (GRC) in Niskayuna, NY. This includes working closely with researchers, Functional orgs and the Global Commodity Leader to ensure internal processes meet GE compliance/operational standards. You will also serve as the back-up to the Government Buyer.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead sensitive contract negotiations, usually of a proprietary nature and therefore must understand the critical elements of a contract as well as what GE considers intellectual property

  • Develop and execute on a sourcing strategy and goals that drive cost reduction and meets cash flow targets

  • Continue to maintain value added relationships with all levels of management in support of assigned commodity, including communication of company and GRC policies

  • Collaborate with the Legal community and our researchers to meet operational goals and protect GE IP contractually

  • Function as sourcing focal point for assigned business technology groups

  • Coordinate global buy where appropriate with the Global Commodity Leaders

  • Provide guidance to the technical community regarding sourcing compliance processes as needed

  • Ensure that in all negotiations, GE’s IP and patent rights are protected

  • Act as a change agent to drive a value added supply chain mind set throughout the organization

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 8 years of experience in Sourcing)

  • Minimum of 3 additional years of experience in Sourcing Management

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and work effectively with people from functional support groups as well as various scientific disciplines

  • A basic understanding of contract law is also helpful
