Role Summary:

The Membrane Process Engineer helps develop and improve membrane filtration products and the processes used to manufacture them. You will perform both routine and innovative chemical and engineering work in both laboratory and manufacturing environments.

Essential Responsibilities:

As the Membrane Process Engineer, you will:

  • Effectively manage daily priorities to complete assigned projects or processes

  • Be accountable for data quality, quantity and timeliness of work

  • Work safely and follow good regulatory and chemical hygiene practices

  • Lead laboratory, pilot and production scale-up experiments for new product and process development

  • Lead engineering projects to design and build test and production equipment or fixtures

  • Perform laboratory studies using sound experimental design and analysis techniques

  • Use statistical process control and statistical design of experiments to develop and/or improve products and processes

  • Log, analyzes and reports results of experimentation

  • Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with policies and procedures

  • Provide verbal and written project updates to supervisor or project leader

  • Prepare chemical solutions for tests and trials involving chemical handling, weighing and mixing

  • Mix chemicals and conduct chemical reactions, following established procedures

  • Operate equipment used in experimental trials or pilot plant

  • Participate in qualification of new test, pilot or production equipment and components for routine use

  • Write and revises equipment standard operating procedures and safety procedures (Safety Risk Assessments, Lock Out Tag Out instructions)

  • Perform routine testing for product development teams

  • Participate in trouble shooting of equipment and processes

  • Train laboratory and manufacturing personnel in the use of equipment and procedures

  • Write and revises laboratory standard operating procedures

  • Participate in evaluating processes to determine best opportunities for eliminating waste and increasing process automation and digitization

  • Perform general equipment maintenance, cleaning and calibration

  • Perform analytical testing for both Product Development and Manufacturing Teams working within a Research Analytical Group

  • Develop and validates new test methods to support internal customers

  • Perform general instrument maintenance, cleaning and calibration and qualification testing of new instrumentation for routine laboratory use

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, such as Chemical Engineering or Chemistry

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master's Degree in and Engineering or scientific discipline

  • Training as a Chemist or Chemical Engineer

  • Prior use of statistical software and databases

  • Knowledge of PLC programming, data logging

  • Demonstrated knowledge of chemistry and chemical processes

  • Demonstrated high performer with a basic knowledge of filters, membranes and water chemistry

  • Demonstrated knowledge of design or experiments and statistical analysis

  • Demonstrated ability to perform routine testing and troubleshoot equipment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude (design, building or modifying equipment, plumbing)

  • Willing and able to become LOTO Authorized

  • Ability to work in an industrial, chemical manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to safely lift up to 25 pounds

  • Ability to use a chemical respirator

  • Demonstrated ability to multitask in a laboratory and production environment

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately record and enter data

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Basic word processing and spreadsheet skills
