Role Summary:

Field Service Engineer / Technician to plan and execute complex technical field assignments involving the installation, modification, testing, inspection, or repair of sensors, gateways, and other equipment in support of Internet of Things project.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • This is a remote position – the successful candidate will be a self-starter capable of independent planning and implementation of IoT projects.

  • Projects will require work on-site at various GE and customer locations across the country.

  • Requires team player with customer service and detail oriented attitude.

Typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work with cross-functional teams to meet commitments involving maintenance, commissioning and testing of remotely operated equipment.

  • Recommend measures to improve operations and customer service.

  • Perform complex field service operations that typically present unusual problems requiring strong technical skills.

  • Conduct tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of equipment and procedures.

  • Record, compile, and reduce data for analysis and assist in related assessment and preparation of reports.

  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment, applying knowledge and experience gained from training and field assignments.

  • Recommend changes, such as new equipment or modified procedures, to improve performance and customer satisfaction.

  • Lead the performance of assigned field services projects such as site audits and installations.

  • Assist in planning and coordinating efforts of contractors and other team members.

  • Guide less experienced technicians and instruct them in proper and safe operation of equipment and software.

  • Often work non-standard schedules in the office or at field locations with exposure to varying environmental conditions.

  • Determine any commissioning risks inherent in the proposed scope of work and recommend changes.

  • Deliver quality commissioned systems in line with budget and time parameters.

  • Liaise on technical issues with relevant parties during installation and commissioning.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED with 7 years of professional work experience or Bachelors Degree with 5 years of professional experience.

  • Background in electrical service or installations experience in a field service role.

  • Background in HVAC service or installations experience in a field service role.

  • Experience with field instrumentation and devices, including air flow, pressure, temperature, electric, and lighting meters.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%.
