Roles and Responsibilities:
Role Summary/Purpose
With minimal supervision, welds metal components together with brazing and various arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as vanes, shrouds, and other components of turbine jet engines
Essential Responsibilities
Sets up welding equipment, positions components to be welded, adjusts current input, selects gas and orifice, and regulates gas flow to obtain proper weld penetration and metal flow
Performs specialized work on turbine air-cooled vanes and vane rings and other hot section components of turbo jet engines in accordance with technical specifications
Fabricate necessary gas back up and chilled bars as required to perform efficient weld repair
Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes
Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding
Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts
Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding
Locates and repairs cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads
Maintains work area housekeeping and assist in department/team housekeeping efforts
Adheres to and follow all safety procedures, i.e., lock-out/tag-out; report safety concerns, use appropriate PPE as required, and follow all safety practices
Assists with training of new associates
Qualifications/Requirements
High School Diploma/GED
Minimum 2 years of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)/Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding experience OR minimum 40 college credit hours in Welding from an accredited college/university including GTAW/TIG welding
Welder certification on components is required in accordance with Quality Assurance Manual specifications; requires passing periodic welding proficiency tests
Willing and able to work overtime and any shift
Requires the ability to read, write, and speak the English language: interpret and follow written procedures, i.e. AWI (Aviation Work Instructions), etc., complete documentation, i.e. routers, etc., and follow verbal instructions
Desired Characteristics
Associate’s degree or 2-year certificate from an accredited college/university in Welding including GTAW/TIG welding
Proven experience and willingness to be self-directed and identify improvement processes
Ability and willingness to work effectively with others in a team setting
Follow and promote safe work practices
Communicate effectively with others
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
