Role Summary:

Full Time Regular

To provide a professional and technically competent Electrical (Instrument & Control) function, to ensure the safe operation and maintainability of new and existing equipment and systems on site whilst ensuring high standards are maintained. To provide a comprehensive maintenance, improvement and modification function.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Support the Engineering manager in relation to the site electrical reliability strategy, ensuring capability is maximized through improved equipment reliability. Responsible and accountable for the site electrical engineering standards

  • Drive and champion site engineering continuous improvement initiatives

  • Assess the manufacturing process, determining plant requirements to maintain safety, quality and cost effective manufacture, eliminating non-value adding business activities/processes; implementing initiatives to improve all aspects of the process contributing to the reduction of costs and improved process flow.

  • Proactively investigate areas of engineering & improvements to help initiatives to improve site overall OEE.

  • Support maintenance staff with technical advice, application engineering, incident investigation and project scope definition.

  • Develop improvement projects from concept through lifecycle to implementation/delivery; be the lead Engineer on some projects and provide assurance that legislative and company standards are implemented.

  • As lead project engineer, develop scope and implement small to medium scale management of change and projects

  • Plans and conducts research and development of standard engineering assignments

  • Recommend and implement improvements in the production process. Select and apply engineering techniques to solve problems Assess results for applicability, validity and conformance to specifications

  • Advise others/Coach/Team on operations in running equipment reliably and safely, by participating in morning meetings, improvement/MOC discussions and plant continuous improvement proposals

  • Lead specific working groups in the investigation and implementation of improvement projects and initiatives.

  • Assist with specifications for capital equipment procurement projects

  • Provide training and act as resource for less experienced employees wrt electrical engineering.

  • Manage 3 rd party contractors for the maintenance and management of site HV electrical integrity

  • Presentation of work, reports and recommendations to senior management

  • Responsible for fulfilling individual goals and objectives as well as contributing to the goals and objectives of the team.

  • Special projects as assigned.

  • Any Other Duties as Required


  • Degree qualified or equivalent.

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards CEng status

  • COMPEX certificate is desirable.

  • BS7671 certificate is desirable.

  • Membership of relevant Institute

  • Experience of providing Electrical Engineer maintenance support within a chemical/petrochemical industry

  • Experience of working in a high hazard COMAH /regulated manufacturing site would be beneficial

  • Experience of project management (short/long term), process improvements and general manufacturing initiatives

  • Some experience of facilitating groups would be beneficial

  • Technical experience in relation to technical electrical analysis of equipment, reliability and utilization

  • Knowledge of the management of HV equipment installations is beneficial

  • Maintenance management system experience of full site electrical distribution system & integrity assurance

  • Experience of working with hazardous installation on either lower or top tier COMAH site.

  • Site electrical duty holder

  • Knowledge of process development and improvement techniques.

  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental compliance requirements COMAH awareness (Control of Major Accident Hazards).

  • Knowledge of High Voltage (HV) safety management systems

  • Knowledge of IEC 61511. Functional safety management.

  • Electricity at Work Regulations 1989

  • Awareness of Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) legislation

  • Knowledge of Project lifecycles & implementation

  • Awareness of Management of Change (MOC) system requirements

  • Awareness of compliance with DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations

  • Understanding of maintenance concepts (reactive, preventative, condition based etc.)

  • An understanding of facilitating small groups and motivating and leading teams

  • Understanding of improvement techniques as applied to manufacturing

  • Knowledge of engineering requirements in relation to health, safety and environment legislation

  • Knowledge of specific HV electrical legislation would be desirable

  • Skills in the use of SAP would be beneficial

  • Previous experience with Maximo or other CMMS would be beneficial

  • Skills in the use of Microsoft Office packages, including e-mail
