Role Summary/Purpose

The Lead Manufacturing Engineer demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities

In the role of Lead Manufacturing Engineer you will:

  • Lead action workouts utilizing lean-manufacturing principles to improve process capability, reduce overall costs and increase capacity

  • Drive Process Improvement / Cycle Reduction initiatives and drive productivity improvements via process changes or improvements

  • Lead high impact process and quality improvement projects yielding significant reduction in defects and increased productivity in the manufacturing cells

  • Respond to customer complaints, by driving to root cause and implementing sustainable corrective actions. Attend weekly cross-functional quality sessions to provide status updates

  • Identify and reduce sources of labor efficiency variations

  • Identify and reduce product quality issues caused by process variation

  • Design and build / procure necessary tooling and finishing within budgets

  • Conduct cost / benefit analysis for changes to processes and/or equipment changes

  • Develop and maintain manufacturing Work Instructions as processes change and new processes are implemented. Ensure routings are created and updated with process changes

  • Support equipment upgrades from purchase through installation and training

  • Support EHS projects within the manufacturing cells

  • Ensure processes contribute to a safe work environment

  • Lead New Technology Initiatives / Implementations (NTI) and share best practices with other locations


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing or operations

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

  • Six Sigma training is preferred

  • Prior exposure to and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing is preferred

  • Prior manufacturing process improvement accomplishments preferred

  • Prior exposure and/or knowledge of electronic manufacturing

  • Strong mechanical design ability

  • Strong Project Management skills

  • Strong manufacturing process knowledge

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Ability to manage priorities, multi-task multiple projects, and achieve results

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications

  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams to drive results

  • Ability to analyze data and use data to make process improvements

  • JMO or JOLP / OMLP Graduate (GE Employees Only)
