Role Summary/Purpose

The Employment and Labour Relations Manager (m/f) gives advice and leadership on employee and union or works council relations. He/she advises the management on legal/labour law/regulatory issues and risk management and positions requiring thorough understanding, application and mastery of approaches, theories, methodologies and application in a concrete organizational context.

Essential Responsibilities

Provide operational and strategic legal advice to the GE O&G Business in Germany. The key areas of focus will include all topics related to employee relations and benefits and ensuring legal compliance with regard to employment-related laws and GE policies. The Employment and Labour Relations Manager will work closely with the HR Managers in O&G. The position reports directly to the Director Labour Relations in Germany.

  • Provide advice and counsel on all ployment and labour law related issues including: ployment law, ployment policies and practices, disciplinary issues, works council and unions, equal opportunities and diversity, restructuring and outsourcing, ployment litigation, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures for the HRM Teams in O&G

  • Partnering with the HRM Teams of O&G and to ensure the implentation of Business and HR initiatives are in line with Labour law

  • Support or lead the negotiations of Shop agreents

  • Support or lead the negotiations of balance of interests and Social plans

  • Negotiate termination agreents

  • Representation at court

  • Identify and manage HR Compliance risks in O&G

  • Co-ordinate labour relations and works council strategies within O&G

  • Ensure that works council requirents are aligned with data privacy requirents on e.g. roll out of new tools

  • Develop and leverage a wide external network to stay current on the social affairs agenda, anticipate changes

  • Lead GE Germany wide LR Projects across all Businesses

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law from an accredited university or college

  • Qualified lawyer

  • Substantial post-qualification work experience in practising labour and employment law

  • Strong, interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills

  • Able to translate legal concepts into practical business solutions and influence key decision-makers

  • Prior experience in dealing with works councils/unions in Germany. Experience in an international environment is a plus

  • Highly organised, good project management and process skills, a self-starter, and good at managing and prioritising numerous projects to meet demanding deadlines

  • Strong employee advocacy skills

  • Fluency in German and English

  • Able to work effectively at all levels of the organization

  • Business mindset and strong solutions orientation

  • Travel willingness throughout Germany
