Role Summary:

As a Sr Director of a software engineering group, you will apply your knowledge of management, software development methodologies, best practices and proven processes to deliver a quality software product on budget, with in planned schedule with superb quality.

Essential Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

  • Demonstrate very strong technical leadership and peoplemanagement skills including solid communication and analytical skills withthorough understanding of product development and successful problemdefinition, decomposition, estimation and resolution

  • Influence decision making through active partnership withcross-functional teams

  • Manage strategic business partnerships and relationshipsthrough Technical, Financial, Contractual and Relationship management

  • Own and manage the multiple rapid prototyping and productdevelopment budgets

  • Coach, mentor and lead a diverse group of lean/agilesoftware and user experience engineers

  • Work with product owners across the businesses to understandmarket needs & vision; quickly translate that vision into demonstrablesoftware

  • Quickly define and deliver working software prototypes

  • Work with product owners and architects to develop multigeneration software technology plans

  • Work directly with customers to understand business andtechnical needs

  • Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminatingduplication, leveraging product and technology reuse

  • Support process improvements which guide the development,sustaining & support activities

  • Work cross functionally with other business departments toalign activities and deliverables

  • Drive world-class quality in the development and support ofproducts

  • Keep project data relating to tracking and financialscurrent

  • Deliver resource strategy and plans, including use of 3rdparties/partners, etc., in support of development and support activities

  • Plan and manage budgets related to scope of team

  • Communicate effectively both within immediate team and GEleadership. Ensure team receives consistentmessages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy andresults

  • Build a world class software development team toconsistently deliver complex software platforms and research projects ofvarying size and duration

Qualifications/Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

  • A minimum of 12 years of professional experience in SoftwareDevelopment Senior Management / Director roleOR Master’s degree with 10 years of experience in Software Development Senior Management

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an engineering leadership /management role

  • GE Leadership Program Graduates will get credit towardsrelevant work experience, commensurate to the program they have completed

  • Defines product vision. Lays out product roadmap. Mapscurrent requirements to industry trends, analyses competition trends

  • Demonstrates mastery of the intricacies of interactions anddynamics in Agile teams.). Guides new teams to adopt Agile, troubleshootsadoption efforts, and guide continuous improvement. Provides training on Lean /Agile. Drives elimination of inefficiencies in coding process. Teaches XPpractices to others. Actively embraces new methods and practices that increaseefficiency and effectiveness

  • Previous experience in software development in an agileenvironment and writing code

  • Previous experience working in a Java web developmentenvironment

  • Demonstrates advanced understanding of Linux or Unixoperating systems

  • Demonstrates advanced understanding of software developmenttools & infrastructure

  • Prioritizes projects based on an assessment of competitiveneeds. Anticipates areas of competitive vulnerability and offers plans tomitigate them

  • Evangelizes new technology, predicts trends, and identifiesnew opportunities based on trends. Acts as industry expert by participating indefining standards and open source initiatives

  • Creates a culture of customer focus and high performance todrive innovation. Creates and pitches value for the GE investor while balancingthat with the sometimes competing value for the external customer. Continuousengagement with focus on GE strategy for customer satisfaction

  • Establishes framework for a culture of successfulcollaboration by defining a common understanding of who has decision rights andaccountability, and how collaboration and transparency are rewarded

  • Establishes vision, Identifies and championsinternal/external best practices, tools, and ideas to improve execution andquality. Drives an organization of efficiency, accountability and ownership

  • Additional leadership experience in areas of operations,manufacturing and quality preferred

  • Uses critical thinking skills and disciplined approaches tohelp leaders and leadership teams resolve issues and define solutions. Evangelizes and contributes to the GEstandards for critical thinking best practices and methodologies across theenterprise. Defines new critical thinking methods. Engages with external thought-leaders andcommunities on analytical and critical thinking methodologies

  • Previous experience in mechanical, electrical or systems engineering environment.
