Role Summary/Purpose

As a lead power electronics engineer, you will develop, lead and execute technology programs in power electronics and / or machine drives developing advanced topologies leveraging recent advancements in components, packaging and controls and deliver solutions for high power density, cost and performance for power conversion to various GE businesses including aviation, healthcare, transportation and oil & gas.

Essential Responsibilities

As a lead engineer, you will:

  • Conduct power electronics research involving modeling and simulation of components and circuits, design of power electronic circuits and controls, and test of lab scale circuit and system prototypes

  • Develop and test circuits using wide band gap devices

  • Design and implement controls for power electronics circuits and systems

  • Collaborate with both GE product engineers and with global research team members on technical projects

  • Work with GE engineering teams to formulate and propose research programs

  • Write and orally represent the research and team to its business customers, leadership and at technical conferences

  • work with multi-disciplinary broader team or independently deliver based on the requirements of the project

  • deliver on technical projects with set timeline and cost

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 3 years of industry experience in an advanced technology development environment designing, building and testing power electronics and controls or a masters degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 6 years of industry experience in an advanced technology development environment designing, building and testing power electronics and controls

  • Understanding of power devices and their gate drives

  • Understanding of thermal management of power electronic circuits

  • Understanding of EMI/EMC design guidelines for high frequency power electronic circuits

  • Hands-on hardware design and build experience in power circuits and systems

  • Experience in circuit and system simulation tools such as PLECS, Saber, Matlab/Simulink etc.

  • Experience in designing the PCB

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Ability work independently as well as in collaborative team environment

  • Unfailing dedication to deadlines and commitments

  • Experience with project and task leadership including strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated can-do attitude, and successful track record of guiding others in on-time, on-budget deliverables

  • Understanding of wide band gap power devices and drives (e.g. SiC and GaN)

  • Experience in advanced real-time and embedded digital control with DSP and FPGA hardware, firmware and software

  • Knowledge of integrated packaging technologies for power electronic components (semiconductors, passives etc.) and advanced thermal management

  • Experience in advanced magnetics material and components, advanced capacitor technologies and energy storage components

  • Knowledge of various electrical machine topologies and control techniques
