Role Summary/Purpose

The Flight Analytics is a team of passionate individuals who foster innovative analytics for improving aviation safety and efficiency using multiple airline data sources, including DFDR/QAR & operational data. We promote a creative and relaxed environment by placing a high value on ideas and personal growth. The Rotorcraft Data Analyst will grow and maintain our Analytics Libraries by developing algorithms based on data driven decisions.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop analytics in support of rotorcraft industry safety and efficiency best practices

  • Design, test, and maintain data configurations (DFDR/QAR, operational databases, etc.)

  • Deliver design input for the evolution of the Analytics Platform

  • Communicate analytic development to internal and external users through presentations and documentation

  • Train and assist customers in using the Austin Digital software and analytics libraries

  • Identify and correct flight data quality issues

  • Serve as internal expert user of the Austin Digital platform for input to the ongoing improvement and development of the software offering

  • Lead or participate in a mix of short and long term aviation safety or efficiency projects

  • Work in technical teams in application and deployment of data mining methods

  • Perform exploratory, and targeted data analyses for Austin Digital analytics libraries and for specific customer projects

  • Assist in determining technical approaches and methodologies to be used on projects

  • Ensure proper definition of data needs, evaluation of data quality, and critique appropriate statistical analyses; for critical projects, perform needed analyses

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong knowledge of or experience with rotorcraft operations

  • Strong understanding of flight dynamics, avionics, and onboard aerospace systems

  • Strong math skills, including vector calculus, regression analysis, and statistics

  • Experience in performing on-demand, exploratory, and targeted data analyses to obtain insights large data sets

  • Competency in major analytics software packages and programming environments (e.g. Matlab, Python, R, Java etc. in Big data paradigms)

  • Familiarity with Flight Data recording standards and readout methods

  • Understanding of binary and other non-decimal numbering systems

  • Solid oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills
