Role Summary/Purpose

GE is building operations teams focused on performance and availability of Compute and Network infrastructure consumed by all business segments. These teams are composed of highly talented individuals obsessively focused with availability through operational excellence. The ideal individual is relentlessly technical, passionate for automating everything and totally committed to delivering amazing customer experiences. This role is focused on delivering monitoring and automation capabilities

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead deployment and management of enterprise monitoring and automation tools

  • Establish performance baselines, capacity thresholds, correlate events, and define monitoring/alerting criteria

  • Develop automated solutions to address potential problems before they result in a service interruption

  • Create automation for programmatic deployment and management of tools used in production environment

  • Design and lead deployment of capacity models to baseline transactional load compared to resource performance and leverage data to predict overall system capacity

  • Distill volumes of data, analyzes performance results, diagnoses performance problems and clearly characterize system performance to stakeholders

  • Respond and lead resolution to on-call escalations for urgent issues

  • Provide coaching and direction to junior team members to ensure they have sufficient guidance and technical leadership to successfully fulfill their duties

Qualifications/Requirements

Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Minimum 5 years IT experience in enterprise-wide deployments

  • Exceptional knowledge and experience managing operating systems (Unix, Linux, Windows)

  • Experience with common scripting languages (Bash, Perl, Python, Ruby)

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

  • Obsessive about uptime, availability and reliability while being proactive about everything

  • Strong understanding of cloud computing, including security, usage scenarios, and infrastructure basics

  • Experience managing version control systems such as Git

  • Experience deploying and managing infrastructure on public clouds such as AWS or Azure

  • Experience using an automated configuration management system (CA Autosys, CA PAM, Ansible)

  • Excellent knowledge of Network Management (SNMP, MIB)

  • Experience with configuring, customizing, and extending monitoring tools (Sensu, Grafana, Splunk)

  • Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP networking, and inter-networking technologies (routing/switching, proxy, firewall, load balancing etc.)

  • Ability to work well within small team focused on rapid delivery of results
